Grinding out Fork dropout to 14mm
« on: April 14, 2021, 09:32:56 PM »

Does anybody have any insight into grinding a fork dropout to 14mm?

I'm running a Haro Mega Fork (28mm offset) and want to swap to a minimal offset fork (13-15mm offset). However I don't want to give up my 14mm front axle. Has anybody taken a pair of, say S&M Fast Pitch forks, and just had the dropout opened up a bit to fit the 14mm axle?

Trying to get that lighter, more modern tapered fork style, with the big axle I like. Since NOBODY makes modern 14mm drop out fork with 990 mounts.

Maybe I have to just get them custom made? Who would do that for me? We Bikes?

Thanks

For $30 I had a welder adjust my rear dropout from 10mm to 14mm. Did a good job and took about 20 minutes...

It can be done. get a cheap angle grinder and pair of protective eyewear and you are good to go. Grind a bit at a time and TAKE YOUR TIME with it. good luck and keep us posted!
