Best complete bike right now for flatland?
« on: May 08, 2020, 09:14:11 PM »
Which flatland complete bike would you recommend?I am not a pro, nor a beginner... just haven't rode in a while (90's).  When I was competing I had a highly modified Haro Master.  Please help suggest a good quality complete bike for flatland.

The Ares completes on flatlandfuel are the ticket. If you are over 5'10 I'd get the longer one the AFX (19.5" top tube) but if you are shorter then go for the A-plus (18.5" top tube)

hope that helps and great having you back

There really isn't much choice of complete flatland bikes in 2020.

Over in Japan there are bikes from Ares, TNB and MotelWorks.

Then you have the Colony Apprentice, AUTUM STAY HUNGRY, KHE CHRIS BÖHM and that's about all I can think of.

Over in the US good luck finding any of these, except for ARES that FlatlandFuel carries.

I really appreciate all the help.  Someone had suggested the Haro Downtown deluxe as a good start.  Not sure if the wheels and other parts are solid enough. Thanks again!

The haro Downtown is a street bike. The only good advantage is that it comes in 19.5" TT and 165mm cranks (and both brakes if you want that)

If I was to use that bike, I would be replacing at the minimum the tires, putting in a freecoaster, 4 flatland pegs.

The bike costs $389.99 and after buying new parts and relacing the wheel ..  your looking at another $300....
And I don't like the geometry on that frame a lot. Long 13.7" chainstays.....

I'm in the same boat as you. Haven't ridden in two decades. Now I just want a complete bike without a hassle. I've been looking for a couple weeks and made a short list with the measurements that seem to matter. (Shorter chain stay, smaller fork offset, higher head tube angle, higher BB height, shorter cranks, shorter top tube unless you're over ~5' 10") However it seems most any freestyle bike *could* work, so much of this seems like opinion and preference. There are more bikes than this but I passed if the style wasn't attractive to me, but maybe this will give you an idea. No comment on the availability, price, or "quality" such as CroMo or Steel, double wall or single, butted, etc. All have a freecoaster rear hub. It seems very few completes come with a second set of pegs or full brakes, you have to get those added yourself, but most retailers will do it before shipping if you ask.

Thanks for that list. Which bike did you go for? I'm in the same situation, rode in the 80's / early 90's.

I want both front and back brakes with gyro too though. Which means I need to change the fork on most of these bikes. Odyssey's got some with 990's with minimum / no offset.

Hello,

The last discussions have been a little longer than expected. Since I am currently looking for a BMX for my son, I wanted to take this opportunity to ask if anyone can recommend complete BMXs that are especially suitable for small children.

I would be happy about any advice!

Many thanks in advance!
