Testing the Profile Free-coaster Cassette with Tyler Gilliard
« on: December 02, 2013, 04:47:52 PM »

I've caught some good buzz surrounding Profile's freecoaster that's currently being developed, but this video surprised me. I wasn't expecting that sound, and I'm even more curious now.

The pegs are from back wheel ninja DUB's new company, igi. I got to check them out at Guru Jam not too long ago. They're pretty neat; designed to make pivots easier.

Yep.

I rather prefer the stealthy silent freecoaster myself, but one of my friends who switched to cassette for a little while said he found the clicking to be kind of zen-like. I started thinking of Shintaro's videos from last year in the garage and that it was kind of cool to hear the little clicks slowing down as he worked the front wheel over.

I kind of like the sound actually. The main thing is how well it works and holds up. It might be too early to tell, but it def sounds promising!

I'm stoked on how many people have checked this out!

Regarding the sound: the cassette noise is only audible if you engage to pedal and stop pedaling to coast without backpedaling slightly to disengage the hub into freecoast mode (as you can see from the first clip in the video).  Although the cassette noise is a permanent aspect of the hub design, you have a degree of control as to just how much of that noise you hear.

The following is the truth.  The preceeding is a lie.

I guess this would be lighter than most freecoaster today.

Yall are a bunch a winey ass bitches!

First you want more companies to make more freecoasters.....done....BIG CHECK MARK!

Second a reputable company supports flatland , and makes a product that has a sound that is notable on any bmx bike and you already complain about it (because god know why does it even f*cking matter when the majority of flatland bmx riders that come on here bitching seclude yourselves in your empty parking lots, not promoting flatland , with your $20+ noise canceling headphones on anyways) but want to bitch about a cassette noise.

Yall are a bunch of bitches really....go f*cking ride
