Which Cranks???
« on: November 17, 2012, 08:17:20 PM »
Right guys which cranks would you get
here are the options
1: St Martin Evo v2 with 18t sprocket @155 long
2 : Khe Hindenburg 2 piece crank with 18t sprocket @160 long
3 : Khe Erlkoenig with 20t sprocket@160 Long

The cranks I have been riding were 165mm length with a 26t sprocket
I want the gearing to be easier hence the smaller sprocket
will i notice the difference in crank arm length
views on are lengths would be much appreciated.

Many thanks
Matt

Ordered Hindenburg cranks! And a suleo
18t sprocket!
Has anyone else found that you need to drill
out the sprocket bolt hole by about 1.5mm to make
the 19mm adaptor fit?
obviously I need to drill that bolt hole out
or the sprocket won't centralise!
Anyone else found this with suleo or other
sprockets?
Cheers

Be careful with the sprocket as they are known to explode.
I think the suelo sprockets are/were a different spec to other mini sprockets.

Explode!
It's just the hole on the sprocket that the
Bolt goes through that fixes it to the arm
I need to open out by about a mil and a half
so the 19mm adaptor will sit correctly in the sprocket
allowing it to centralise!
Hopefully that won't make it explode!

Matt,
The Suelo micro sprocket and hole height were different to all the other standards.
Designed specifically to only work with Suelo cranks as no other company adopted the same standard.

The biggest danger or issue you could face is the sprockets is it breaking or splitting.
If you compare a Suelo sprocket with many of the other micro sprockets out there, the greatest difference being that most others are considerably thicker to help offset the larger amount of stress on a smaller area.

Now Suelo has revised their sprockets and cranks multiple times and I am not sure what version they got to before they company was sold off.

What I am saying is basically, if you are going to modify something that already has a history of breakages.
Obviously rider weight and pressure on parts can vary greatly across the scale.
So just be careful.

Thanks for the heads up!

I just used a round file to open the fixing hole
of the sprocket any about 3mm
Then I had to grind away at the crank arm
where the locating hole is for a larger sprocket
Just to allow the chain to pass through when that
arm was in the forward position!
Now it's all on and feels lovely!
All in time for the wettest weekend in ages!
