stolen easystreet help!
« on: October 27, 2010, 04:55:47 AM »
I am riding a stolen easystreet freecoaster and no matter how many times i take it apart and clean it, regrease it, i can not find out why it will not properly engage!
I know that the slack is adjusted outside the hub(tried that many times and no difference),
nothing is broken inside the hub either.
It will only instantly engage about 20% of the time.
If anybody knows what the trick is to this hub or what i might be doing wrong, please help.

    -thanks

You have the springs and pawls in correctly?

Wolverines? Is there more than one way they can fit in there? I mean besides on one side of the hub or the other? I've helped John out with this hub and it's got me stumped too...

These hubs aren't ready for the BMX industry. Other companies have tried them and made a quick buck but the design is flawed. They don't work. Sorry to tell you that but no matter you do it will keep breaking in a variety and multitude of different ways.

Thx meanwun,
John found that about a month ago but de-greasing somthing on a coaster just seemed wrong to me. We have figured out that we had a pair of the spring/prawns in the wrong place, thx to wolverines, but have you tried degreasing that spring before? Did that help?
Thx, Rob

Wolverines talked me into getting one of those hubs and I'm here to say it is the total bomb,I ride it hardcore all over the back wheel both directions,no issues nock on wood,so far very good hub.

Thx, I think it just needs a little TLC. All used coasters do.

OK fellas, John n I rebuilt his coaster last night and he did seem to have the springs in wrong, you can have them flipped very easily, we also degrease the spring on the inter-axle. Unfortunately he still has a half to 3/4 rotation of slippage before it engages, intermittently. Here's pics of what we have...

I'm guessing that we may still have the prawns in upside down? We also still  have grease on/in the hub shell.

where is that pawl ring located?  in the shell or in the clutch?

did you use the vimeo video(s) for help?  he doesn't go into the guts, just slack adjustment and well how to get the guts off without taking them apart..

In the base of the clutch. We have seen the video, thx. I'm hoping that wolverines says that the pawls need to be flipped.

Rob,

I can't see pictures from my phone , but I will tear down a hub and take pictures and post 'em up in a few hours when I get home.

Did you tighten the hub all the way though? (Pretty sure you have- just checking)
