Right on!! How long can you roll them backwards? You can do them backwards with out your brake but it takes a lot to control it at first. After I picked up hang 5 the steamroller just followed suit.
I don't really understand how do you get in to bw hang5 position without brakes?

Basically you lean over and try to get pretty close to where the balance point is going to be once you're in the hang 5.  Then you slightly push off your foot (either on the pedal or back peg) and push the bars forward until the seat touches your butt, that kind of stabilizes the back end.  But if I had one tip to give it would be:  At first don't worry about bringing the seat all the way up, just lean forward and as gently as you can try and lift the backwheel off the ground and roll a few feet and do like a beginner version of a hang 5.  Then gradually work on getting that backwheel higher and higher to the point where you are doing it proper.  That worked really well for me personally.

(edit) my bad i was thinking forwards.

Oh yeaaah, I could do about 12 meters (about 40 feet) on bw hang5 and the bike was stopping and I was forcing it with my free leg to continue rolling, so sweet! :D

ARRRR this trick is my arch enemy... my nemesis....

I first rolled a backwards hang-5 (from a brakeless squeaker)
back in 2003.....

But hang-5's still TOTALLY elude me. I do not understand this
trick AT all. I've had experienced riders around me showing me
the true path to hang-5 enlightenment, but SOME part of my
brain refuses to admit they are possible.

I can hitchhiker (sketchily), but NO hang 5's. I think i'm ill.

:(

Backwards Hang 5 Small | Large

Hey IGuitar,

I think you have the idea now but I shot this for you today. I didn't have much time so I wasn't able to do a very controlled Backwards hang 5. But you get the idea of starting it with no brakes. I didn't use my brakes at all. I am used to hitting my brake to ride out but I was able to get one on film. Hope this can help you and maybe someone else out there.

Keep on Riding!

I find backwards hang 5's pretty easy too, start them out as a squeaker without using your brake and find that balance point by focusing on your tire and just holding it, feels much easier than a forwards version where it constantly feels like you're falling forward, or at least that how it feels to me.
Isn't that bike a bit small for you?

Matelot,  i learned backwards hang 5s so much faster, because like matelot said forwards makes you feel like your falling forward.  even thought your doing the same thing on both (leaning over the bars) it feels safer when your rolling backwards, and when i mastered the backwards hang 5 it made the forward one easy.

Day 2 of my Hang 5 boot camp (I have been filming my progress) well there wasn't any real progress today I was interrupted by some kids that wanted me to do something crazy and so I did a mega spin and told them that was as crazy as it gets for me.After that they asked  what kind of bike is that , a next?  More filming tomorrow (I am committed).
