You cut them as much as you want.

Bar length seems to be more of a trend, I ride 24.5" because I like it. Not many flatland bars come that wide so I just use a pair of street bars.

there is a little rule that says
your bars should be as wide as your shoulders are...
...but do whatever you like...
it's your bike

yeah, well i am a puny narrow kid, and my bars are pretty wide, i only cut like 1inch off of each side, and i like it, just its because when i told soleone my bars were liek 20something inches long they flipped out , a bit wide  :P however i do have trouble with forkglide rideouts, i will cut them a bit to get the rideoouts

bar length is a personal choice.  i prefer to measure them as wide as my shoulders so when i put my arms comfortably in front of me they are as wide as my bars.  for me it is like 22 in or something i dont remember, but for different body types bar length will/should be different.

If it takes you 2+ days and 3 cuts later to get them where they feel comfortable for your riding then those 2+ days of testing and 3 cuts where VERY WORTH it.

im using 26" wide on my chase bar
and 23" wide on swissmiss bar.
both are good for me.

once you cut too far in,  you cant get that back.

unless you weld ;)

seriously though... Its preference.

f*ck trends- i know street riders with 30 inch bars and they cant ride for sh*t

then again i know flatland riders with 20 inch bars that have trouble riding also.

my swiss misses are at 21.5 (last owner cut them) and its a bit short for me. Id love for them to be at 22.5 or 23 inches.
