Primo Comet 1.35's
« on: May 12, 2009, 04:22:14 AM »
Where to start....

LIGHT as hell... For you weight freaks out there- these weigh half as much as 1.75 freq g's (steel bead)

PITA to get on- i swear to god...maybe its just the demolition rims, but its IMPOSSIBLE without tire irons, and WITH them, its hit or miss. Took me about 30 minutes EACH.... Also i had to do it 4 times- Bought a new rear tube, which is working fine, Patched the front tube which pinched, Patched it again on the field, only to pump it up and realise that its leaking from the fill valve.

NOTE TO ALL- you CAN fit 1.5+ tubes in these tires, but its NOT worth the time. My LBS was out of 1.35 tubes, so i had to use 1.5's seeing as how i was dying to ride. I'm about to order some off of flatland fuel.

When riding, theyre great. They are quick, but not jerky. VERY smooth, VERY sticky, just... dare i say? ORGASMIC. They DO look skinny, but im not really having trouble scuffing them. pedaling is twice as easy seeing as how little rotational mass they have.

Will update later when i get word on thread life.

I put 115 psi in them.
they are good from 100psi up
but less than 100 psi is kinda feeling smushy on the sidewalls when carving.

I tried 1.35
it was ok - but  I perfer 1.50 size.
when the micro treads wear off,  the tire still feels the same grippy on riding surface,
and tire becomes better I think at less rolling resistance.
ride them till the cords show thru.    then new ones,
but they are plenty good for riding all the way until you see bare cords.

Do they last as long or longer than regular 1.75 frequency G's. I'm about to buy new tires

I actually know someone who went through 3 Freq G's in 3 weeks, but one comet will last him a month.

I've just ordered my first comet, but I can only find 1.90 size in the UK - still, hoping it will roll fast!

Dave, 1.50 Comets are closer to 1.75. Flatlandfuel has them in stock.

The old 1.75 Comets are closer to 1.80.

You'll need 1.50-1.75 tubes.

seriously....

i was at work today (bikeshop) and towards the end of the day i hear a loud PSHHHHHH.... i thought it was the compressor, but when i go to leave i see my front tire that i just pumped up to 100psi had gone flat.

so then i took a 1.5 tube from the back of the shop and will install it tomorrow morning....

hell, i had 2.15 inch tubes in the tires (and also in the back, with two patches on it mind you), but its just RIDICULOUS to get the tire on and off with those huge tubes.

Invest in thin tubes... otherwise you wont be confident riding these tires...

OH AND A WEE BIT MORE ON THEM:

best tires ive ever ridden. So fricken light, and smooth, and quick. feels like i went from a 28/9 ratio to a 20/9 ratio. Thats how significant the rolling mass lost of the freq gs is.
