Flatland has got it quite hard in Australia. With a small population and large distances between city's, riders are spread out in many locations. The down underground series is going to help extinguish this problem and help flatland move forward. The crew organizing Down Underground is Paul Chamberlain, Todd Harford, Ali Finlay and Shaun Jarvis who all saw the need to do something about the flatland scene in Australia. The main objective of the down underground series is to promote flatland at a grass roots level, to help make the sport grow as well as exposing riders to competitions and the media to the riders.

The Down Underground competitions will be held in Perth, round 1 November, Melbourne round 2 January, Sydney round 3 March and Brisbane round 4 May. The competitions will be organized by the riders in the host city and will be ran in which ever format that the riders choose. Each competition will have the same out come but have a different feel to it. The series will be primarily an amateur competition as all riders will be accommodated for with the inclusion of a basic and advanced classes but over time there is hope that the series will gain some momentum and entice international pro riders to be in attendance.

Colony bmx will be the main sponsor for the series. Back Bone bmx and Freestyle Now will be co sponsoring round one.

Round 1 is expecting approximately 20 competitors from all over Australia to be in attendance. The competition day is set for Saturday 8th at the legendary Scarborough beach multi level carpark. The day will be split into two sections. First half will be an open jam where all riders will judge each other and place in order from 1st to last. The second half will be a set competition format of two comp runs and riders will be judged by 4 judges in a points system. This format is hoped to bring out the best in all riders. All scores will be added to find the winners and non winners. The presentation will take place at a beach bbq watching the sun set over the Indian ocean downing a brew or six or ten. On the Sunday 9th it will be the official jam day where riders will head to a few different locations through out the Perth area such as Fremantle and the Perth concert hall for a fun jam session.
