Yeah, I agree K.J  & C.G are Picassos of the Flatland/BMX world. The Asian riders too are have great tech and style.

There is no more best, if one considers this to be an art form. Those who do this sport and have mastered the art of balance and who fully understand the creative process in the circular motion, hmmm...in freestyle BMX theres got to be variations and combos that have not been explored or created, what is circular has no beginning or end so I imagine someone taking things to a higher level through the use of fundamental flatland riding structures or destroying every process/acts by means of chaos in order to create; explore motion/style/tech.  Alright where are you and are you born?  ;D

This thread won't start a debate as long as noone forces there opinion on anyone however the question is very subjective.  I think a more appropriate question would be which rider style is the most influential.  The obvious riders that come to mind Chase Gouin, Kevin Jones, Jesse Puente, etc.  Now the riders with the most beautiful style thats a whole different question.  I love and cannot get enough of Adam Kun, Domonik Nekoly, and Wolfgang Sauter, there styles really stick to my mind.

I think it depends on the Era.

Martin Aparijo ruled the early 80's with his showmanship, originality and style.

Dennis McCoy ruled the mid 80's with combos and links.

Kevin Jones ruled the late 80's with the re-definition of tricks and set up a new style of riding that would be defined today as modern flatland.

I think everybody falls into the 90's under Kevin Jones up until Martti.

i know people are going to get sick of me asking questions but i have one more on this subject... ha ha

how accurate is the world rankings? I hear a lot of people talking about unjustified results, i know again it goes back to the fact that how your view each riders style e.t.c... is subjective but there must be an element of credit given for the technical difficulty and length of each riders tricks and links aside from just what is most stunning to watch. so with that in mind are the current world rankings a fair reflection on the riders real standings?

A FEW ERAS
TOO MANY STYLES
AND TOO MANY GREAT RIDERS

KEVIN JONES, CHASE GOIUN, PAUL OSICKA, JESSE PUENTE,
AND CHAD DEGROOT ARE CONSIDERED THE BEST OR TOP 5
AND THEN YOU HAVE TO CONSIDER THE ERAS IN 1982-1988,
1988-1995, 1997-2003, 2003-2008(NOW)

I LIVED THRU THE IST ERA WHICH I CALL THE IST GOLDEN GATE
PARK ERA..RON WILKERSON, ROBERT PETERSON, MAURICE MEYERS,
MIKE PERKINS.. ETC AND THE SECOND GOLDEN GATE ERA WAS WITH AARON
DULL, PETE BRANDT, ERIC EMERSON, CARLY GARCIA, JOE PULUSKI,
ETC 1988-1991 THO EVERYTHING STARTED TO REALLY DISAPPEARED IN
LATE 1990 AS FLATLAND AND FREESTYLE DIED ALOT. THE B.S. SERIES
DID KEEP THE SCENE HERE ATLEAST INTACK FOR ANOTHER 4 YEARS
BEFORE IT PRETTY MUCH DISAPPEARED TIL LATE 1997 WHEN ROSS SMITH,
MARCEL TREMBLAY, AND SOME OTHERS APPEARED AND THE SPOT IN DANVILLE
BECAME THE MAIN FOCUS OF NOR-CAL FLATLAND.

I AM NOT SAYING ALL SCENES OR FLATLAND WAS LIKE THIS BUT THIS IS
WHAT HAPPENED HERE IN NOR-CAL SO I SEE DIFFERENT GENERATIONS
OF FLATLANDERS (IN THE EARLY DAYS OF 1982-1988) AND EVERY THING BECAME
MORE ROLLING AND SCUFFING STYLES AND THE FIRST PLYWOOD HOOD
VIDEOS CAME OUT IN THE LAST OF THE IST GENERATION(1982-1988) INTO
THE EARLY PARTS OF THE SECOND GENERATION(1988-1995). FLATLAND REALLY
CHANGED AT THIS POINT SO YOU CAN NUMBER ALL YOU WANT AND SAY WHO
EVER WAS THE BEST BUT YOU HAVE TO LOOK AT THE DIFFERENT GENERATIONS
OF FLATLAND RIDERS TOO.

I AM AN OLD TIMER SO I SEE THINGS OTHERS DONT AND BEEN IN ALL OF THE GENERATIONS OF FLATLANDERS AND GONE TO MANY CONTESTS AND JAMS
TO KNOW ALL THE DIFFERENT STYLES, SCUFFING, ROLLING, WHEEL FLIPS,
BODY VARIALS STYLES ETC.

THIS QUESTION IS WAY TOO WIDE AND BROAD IN TOPIC TO BE ANSWERED
CORRECTLY AND WILL JUST BECOME AN BIG ARGUEMENT BUT WE ALL KNOW
WHO THE MASTERS OR PEOPLE WHO INVENTED 95% OF ALL THE TRICKS OUT
THERE SO YOU HAVE TO LIST THEM AS BEING TOP 5 FOR THAT BUT TO LIST
THE BEST OF ALL TIME, YOU JUST CANT DO THAT REALLY AS I HAVE SAID THIS
QUESTION IS WAY TOO BROAD AND OPEN ENEDED TO ANSWER IT.

How can you justify who is best when considering the world rankings? They have been judged by the same crew of people that judge the same 20 riders over and over for a decade now.

Not to mention the sponsor and friend ties.

In the 1980's the Contest defined the rider until Kevin Jones. He would gel in a competition but he would own the the practice area at a comp.

Top 5? I don't know if Chase G, Paul O, Jesse P & Chad D would be considered the "best" because they were all proteges of what Kevin Jones was doing. But I agree this topic is an argument waiting. lol

look!

ALL THOSE RIDERS INVENTED STYLES AND TRICKS
SO YEAH YOU CAN PUT THEM AS ONE OR AS SOME OF THE
INVENTORS OF FLATLAND AS WE KNOW IT..MODERN FLATLAND
AND MAYBE YOU WERE NOT AROUND BUT I WAS BACK IN THOSE
DAYS AND LIVED THRU ALL THOSE ERAS OF FLATLAND.

I THINK EVERYONE AGREES THAT THOSE 5 ARE THE INVENTORS AND
PATHFINDERS OF FLATLAND..NO DOUBT... BUT WHO IS THE BEST PERIOD
IS HARD TO SAY UNLESS YOU SAY JONES BUT AGAIN THERE HAS BEEN
MANY ERAS OF FLATLANDERS, STYLES AND GREAT RIDERS AS I HAVE SAID!

WE CANT DEBATE ON SUCH AN WIDE AND BROAD SUBJECT..CAN WE?

Man you can never label who is the best... that like asking what food is the best...or what's the best cologne or something...that all subject to what you like.

And how can you be into flat and not know who the hell Kevin Jones is or Chase is?? That's unbeliveable. lol
