Title: What seat are you riding: Rail or Pivotal
Post by: Alex Worden on April 14, 2014, 09:01:48 PM
I am looking for a quick poll. Also interested if you have both types of seat posts available.

KHE seat seat and Thompson post. Light and durable.
Padded seats are comfy but rip to shreds in no time. Hard plastic takes more of a beating.
Pivotal is a great idea but all the seats are the same with different logos and covers.

I have a Kink Pivota Post w/ Alienation Slider seat. It's great for flatland 'cause you have the adjustability of a railed seat with the lighter weight of a pivotal. Dan's Comp has these seats in black or white for only $8.99 & $9.99!

Run both systems- a railed seat ( gt shows, padded and semi padded version) with pivotal gutz to pivotal post for bikes with 71 deg seat post angle; pivotal seat cum post for 73 deg+ seat tube angle frames.
the alienation slider is more for street or dirt riders as the adjustment is more towards putting the seat over the rear tire. Modding it for a few clicks forwards is possible but the compression bolt is at an awkward angle and has a tendency to creak during moderate use.

Primo Rod Post   -  Primo Steriod Seat  . I'm not opposed to pivotal just don't like padded seats.. if they made a small hard plastic seat I would switch..

Just to round out the options I guess... I've been running an SDG Skylite I-Beam seat/post setup for 3 years now with no problems. Chose it mostly for the horizontal adjustability; the seat isn't hard plastic, but the material is pretty tough. I don't really bash my seat much on the ground too often anymore though, so I couldn't say how well it'd hold up for someone linking a lot of upside down backwheel stuff.
I think I used an old Primo Rod as a breaker bar to free up a seized bolt somewhere on my car a few years back... lol.

When someone makes a seat for people with large hands I'll buy it otherwise I'm sticking with this. Everything else sucks hard.

It's small and my fingers jam into the bottom of the seat. Also it breaks easily.

I'm on the infinity (flatland) pivotal seat. I really like it since trimming the nose down. That really freed up some space on crackpackers. I also run the seat angle as flat as possible. This helps with room back behind the seat for cliffhangers and feels very comfortable to grip in the steamroller position. This also helps save weight and keep your seat from dragging the floor bc you can then trim your post and run it lower (while letting you still fit in the pocket back behind the seat).

What's also really cool is using the animal wedge post with the pivotal system to eliminate the seat clamp. You can see here the seat is in place (after 2 sessions now) without using the integrated seat clamp. I will be grinding the whole clamp off since every frame I crack is right in this area (and possibly from the seatclamp's pressure on the area). If you look closely you can see where the frame is beginning to crack.

riding a deep pivotal seat ( with the back bit u grab cut down) . was on a 99er for years and years but once I changed and now cant go back as it feels so heavy. luv the idea of the animal wedge post but don't think I could run a real low  post height. I've had nothing but sh*t with my intergrated post bolts on my intrikat snapping.

Huh, interesting. Does anyone make a laid back pivotal post? One other reason I never went with them is because you only really get one seat position and that's it.

That's the only thing I don't like about pivotal posts, think there's 3 with offset you can get now (eclat/subrosa/odyssey) i did end up cutting some of my seat away too though.
