Title: Video: Lost at SEA
Post by: Mr News Bot on August 14, 2007, 03:21:37 PM
Tom Marsh about his video "Lost at SEA" ( SEA: South East Asia ):

I arrived in Malaysia a year ago,to a town called Kota Bharu on the Malay/Thai border. I thought that the standard of riding is so high in South East Asia, and the riders here are not only extremely dedicated to flatland, but all great characters, that I should shoot a video and post it to my friends.
I've been collecting footage for over a year now and this is a collection of the best bits from Malaysia and Thailand. I would like to say thank you to all the friends I've met in these two country's, for there warm welcome, support, and help with the language! I would have gone back to the UK months ago if it wasn't for you guys!

Check out Tom's great video: Lost at SEA.

I really liked this video...great riding, good editing, and upbeat. There are so many awesome underground riders these days.  That hiker to stall to backpacker link looks fun!

There are so many awesome underground riders these days.

So true.  Watching this video, I can't believe that there are so many underground riders in various corners of the world pulling tricks that are comparable to what internationally-known pros are doing.  Incredible.

what is KB?

I arrived in Malaysia a year ago,to a town called Kota Bharu

at least read the first sentence..

thanks for the video though, I've been craving more vids like this since I saw the hari penyayang vid on global and Diversion6.

I don't get how this trick is possible though. Is he keeping the back end up by pushing down the front of the peg using his feet?

that's the function of the bent kgb forks.that's how matdagu locked into that position.

actually i noticed that he seemed like sitting on the bars and tried to hold tight the fork by his ankle area, and i tried also using the unbike gliding with no handed by holding the fork by my ankle, i think it seemed just like that...anyway, awesome video!!nice one!, thanks..and malaysian is getting wilder in progression...
Title: Re: Video: Lost at SEA
Post by: Kev on August 15, 2007, 03:08:33 PM
^^ It's also about keeping the correct pressure on the pegs with the backend off the ground.  If you think about it, when you lift the backend off the ground, the front pegs rotate a little bit forward, right?  Well, if your in that position, putting enormous pressure on the pegs and leaning back a touch (hence the sitting on the bars look), the pegs wouldn't rotate back (dropping the back end) as long as your feet don't slip the pegs and you have VERY strong legs muscles.  I hope that made sense....I've seen TJ do this trick back when Tranqualized told him it was impossible and that's what he told me about it, plus the clamping the fork with your heels like martin said.

Veeeery nice video! Thanks for making and sharing it with us. It's cool to see riders you haven't seen before - especially such great riders!

Was the other guy with KGB Return bars Mat Magu?

Oh and about the no-handed frontyard: hasn't Viki been doing that many months ago? Also at least Erico can do it and apparently has done it a long time ago.

Post by: lardpacker on August 15, 2007, 06:55:59 PM
The rider on the gold AY at the start goes by the name Toon, the guy who does the hitch to backpacker is Pop. The 2 kgb dudes are X and Golf, Golf's on the raw looking one. The other thai rider on the white ares EN is Krisda and the guy doing the no-handed thingy is Mat DAGU...haha, not Mat Magu as it states on the KGB website. I'm not too sure about the other riders though.

Btw, these are all nicknames save from Krisda's, their real names can get pretty confusing. ;D

Dude, I been doin that trick for almost 2 years now.... I was bustin that sh*t out at the indy jam last year and everyone was tryin that sh*t... Recently I've more or less been workin on swingin the frame around to half packer....
Its really an easy trick... If you can do a backpacker on an unbike, you can do this trick... its the same thing just with a frame attatched.... I put some bizhouse rings on my fork legs to make it grip a lil better and be easier on my ankles....
I thought someone at indyjam this year got me on video doin it to half packer, but I biffed the half packer cause people were in my way...

Have any of you even tried that trick to see how easy it is?
its really no harder than a half packer/backpacker on an unbike.... try it.... if you can do it on an unbike, theres no reason you can't do this trick....
Im serious... try it!
I was calling it an ankle glide....
You can ask anyone that was at the indy jam for the past 2 years.... Tim, jake? I know one of you got some pictures or video of me doin that trick....
Shut these turds up!
Title: Re: Video: Lost at SEA
Post by: tranqulized on August 25, 2007, 04:38:16 PM
Tim does in fact have a picture of me from last year doing this trick.... He doesn't have internet other than his phone so he can't post it at the moment, but he is sending me a disc with the picture on it....
not to mention the number of pro riders I've shown that trick to...
pretty sure ed nussbaum saw it when he came out our way last year, andy cooper was loving that trick at the first indy jam(everyone was trying it and rolling it a lil bit cause its not that hard), Scott powell got some laughs out of it, and brant hughes saw it at this years indy jam...
IF you have any doubt in my ability to do this trick or how long I've been doing it, you can consult one of those people...
I may even have a picture of me doing that trick on my old kgb some where...
If theres anyone who doubts my ability to do this trick, please.. place your bets now before I post the picture.... My bike vs. any challengers bike?
and you don't need any stupid bends in your fork to do it either....

Hate to tell you, but no one is going to believe you until you post a video.  Sorry.

But, there's great news!  It'd be really easy to shut everyone up.  Here's what you do: Find a video camera of any kind...since everything is really easy for you, just go out and film the stuff.  Put on youtube.  Post here!  Instant gratification from everyone trash-talking you.
Title: Re: Video: Lost at SEA

Ok, so the words of the pro riders who've seen me do it don't count???

what about camera phone video??? too grainy??? I'll camera phone that trick to half packer... but my phone only records 15 seconds, so It may not get the whole ride in/out in 1 clip....

and the trick really is easy.... I think monkeyflat was the only one who took my word for it and went out and tried it to see how easy it was.... If you can do a half/backpacker on an unbike, you can do this trick... its really not that hard at all... Just try it.. thats all you have to do..

I don't have a memory card for my phone.... The slot on my phone shorted out from having the phone in my pocket while riding... it got sweat inside of it, and it hasn't worked for some time now, it just wont read any cards at all, wont see that theres a card in there... I've been pretty good about remembering to take it out of my pocket before I ride since then...

I thought some dude from portugal was doing them a couple years ago?

or Europe.

He did it backwards and kind of did a little hop from the pegs to the bars.

I believe he dragged the bars a little not during the glide but either before and after..thus the backwardsness of it all.

Funny thing is i belive him... And not becouse ive seen him do it... I think it gets frustraing to work on things then a few years or months later there is someone pulling your tricks... I know another guy i got to ride with recently out of the blue and his riding was just like myne. I wasnt mad it was accualy cool to know that someone could look at a bike and think thats possible. so i guess just think of all the other riders that dont post here that do insane sh*t thats hard to comprehend that you cant cut down on here.

ya that trick is probably possible too but you'd have to be almost lying back..or maybe like sitting on the pegs and lying back like this

Silly Fools - Wat Jai, it's a mean song. I bought their singles album for $7usd off ethaicd.com, plus it was free shipping worldwide! Never listened to Thai music before so this is all new to me.
