What does changing the headtube angle from 75 to 74 do?  Does it make the front end a little slower?  And what the heck does that mean?
Title: Re: For anyone who ordered a Sickchild Metropolitan...
Post by: SHIZM on July 09, 2007, 12:42:27 AM
Yes it does make it slower.
But you can counteract that by pedaling faster. Or if you ride down a hill and gather up some speed you wouldn't even notice.

haha too funny

i decided to get antifreeze green. i always loved that color, and i figured, f*ck it might as well!

nice ;D I always like the antifreeze green too, something about that shine. When im riding though there are times when its painfully bright but I can see it from a mile away.

I like that blue. thinking about getting one. Cant take my eyes off it
Title: Re: For anyone who ordered a Sickchild Metropolitan...
Post by: LOU4130 on July 10, 2007, 03:51:05 AM
yea if i would have seen those pics before i said i wanted the anti-freeze green, i may have gotten that baby blue instead.

Unfortunately tho, the pre-orders were the only ones you can get with custom paint, brake mounts or 14mm drops. Pre-orders were over like a month ago. Whatever frames are left will be either raw/clearcoat or flat black. 3/8 (10mm) drops and no brakes. You should get one anyway tho...you can always have it powdered what ever color you want on your own. It is a badass frame and i cant wait to get it even more after seeing those pics!
Title: Re: For anyone who ordered a Sickchild Metropolitan...
Post by: TOflat on July 11, 2007, 03:53:40 AM
not to downplay the badness of the baby blue, but antifreeze green rules them all.  ;D

Only raw frames now?

Why?
Title: Re: For anyone who ordered a Sickchild Metropolitan...
Post by: Peter Hollinger on July 11, 2007, 08:25:39 AM
Actually as it turns out there will be no raw frames, only if you specifed raw when pre-ordering.

Be sure what you ordered is what you want, because when you pre-order Ed gets em all sprayed individually and if you change your mind he is stuck with a frame the colour you originally wanted. You know?
Makes life way easier for him. He is really busting his ass on this project for flatland! You have no idea the work and travel he has to do to get these done.

Glad to hear you have ordered one though, **** is gona be so dope!

just to straighten some stuff out... i have not had time to edit my website and update the details. i was hoping to have some frames in my hand already so i could post up pics and all that. anyway, here is the deal. the frames are at the paint shop. so all the people that pre-ordered need not worry. soon the frames will be on their way. basically my welder and i are hoping that all the frames will be done by friday. i was told that some were done yesterday and i am going to call to see what got painted today. keep in mind that with the custom colors, the production colors and the intrikat instrumentals that the paint shop has got to run quite a few colors.

as for the production colors i am basically running black and gray. i forget the final count of how many of each there will be but it is not that many. originally i was gonna run half clear but not all the tubing was looking so hot and it would have been a hassle to sort out tubes for the clear frames. sometimes you get lucky and all the tubing looks dope but that wasn't the case this time. all the frames get sandblasted before paint so its not an issue for colors.

so there you have it. black or gray. thats what sick child is puttin out this year. i did happen to waste 5 hours driving in traffic to pull a production model from the stacks so i could take it to voodoo. it never made it to voodoo but i am able to tell you that it weighs 4 lbs 2 ozs.

i gotta jet but if anyone has any questions hit me up at ed@sickchildbikes.com

peace
ed

I love you Ed! My frame is the shiz nits!!! I'm proud to be running this frame! Its not very often you find a frame that suits your exact taste's, but Ed found the combo and this is it. Metropolitan all the way! I'll release some footy soon of this beast in action...so stay tuned. Take care - Aaron

I gotta say after communicating with Ed over the last several weeks I'm really stoked to have have pre-ordered this frame. Just like everyone else who pre-ordered this frame I wish to have been riding it by now. Words can't describe how much effort Ed has put into producing this frame. Just driving back in forth to the production facility in Sourthern California traffic would alone send me to the edge, and then having to communicate with everyone making sure   all the details are to spec is insane. Custom colors, custom options, and custom geo on such a low count of frames is super rare at an affordable price mind you. I'm just posting this because I really appreciate what Ed is offering us. Thank you Ed!

Ok, where is my frame? Just bs'ing. Can't wait until it arrives.  Peace, Jerry M.

As Lou just stated, the Metro is a frame of the higher quality out there.

Clean welds, perfect spacing of the drop outs, great clearence on the chaintays for cranks, short seat tube lengh above the top tube, very lightweight and STRONG.

If only I'd gotten the color I wanted...can't have it I guess.

not sure if I'm feeling my gold hombre....I'm gonna switch out to a black Suelo or chrome Oddyssey. This by far was THE smoothest build I have ever done. Everything went together so well without cutting, modifying, or having issues with something fitting right. Going to have full session tomorrow. I'll post a proper review then. The frame is very clean. Jerry

my friend Harb just brought his neon green metropolitan over so I decided to snap some pics alongside my aqueduct.   Harb does not ride crankless, he just hasnt had a chance to install the cranks or brakes yet.  These phone camera pics dont do the frame justice, the neon green looks sooo much better than in these pics.

my friend Harb just brought his neon green metropolitan over so I decided to snap some pics alongside my aqueduct.   Harb does not ride crankless, he just hasnt had a chance to install the cranks or brakes yet.  These phone camera pics dont do the frame justice, the neon green looks sooo much better than in these pics.

It's the Quamen cali seatpost.  I went ahead and bought it specifically for this frame because my Macneil post was way too short.
The quamen seatpost in the pictures can still be pulled out another inch while clearing the toptube.

Hey Lou,

You can just run a small hex/allen bolt through the cable guide if you want to run a London Mod.

i was tryin to do that, the london mod is too big, the hole in the london mod doesnt line up with the cable guide. The guide is too close to the toptube. I can probaly drill out the hole a little towards the top of the london mod to make it fit. Buuut right now im not going to put the rear brakes on anyway, still need a gyro and cables...im in no rush really, it was just somethin i noticed.

As good as my custom color look on pics, it didn't do anything for me texture wise.
So I changed it to my original request:

I agree, the Metro is very solid. I'm not sure if any Metros are available but I would most recommend this frame for anyone looking to purchase a frame at this time. Solid, lightweight, dialed geometry, and overall well built. Everything went togther perfect. I'll post several shots of my bike sometime this weekend.

I finally got used to mine and it's the nicest frame I've had. The back end is really short and lightweight, it makes spinning and pumping very smooth. the ht. angle gives it a stable feel too. I'm stoked on my bike!
Wow Pete! 20.5! nice.

Very fun setup I like it a lot.

Thus you should be. It reminds me so much of Ed's old setup. Minus the brakes. Our bikes look so similar. But I still think mines lighter. I'm just itching to ride again. I hate broken bones!!! We gotta ride one of these days. One of these days im hopping the bridge to New York.

well...since my metro is still MY metro, it got a huge makeover..well, is in the process. Not changing any parts cuz its exactly as i want it, but, its got new "threads" so to speak...heres a little preview from my cell camera. Sorry its a little hard to see. Its not cleared yet, but you can see the detail i put on it. took quite a while...
Basically i did it gloss black, then did a dark metallic flake grey fade from the front, then i cut out a bunch of stars by hand from frisket film and placed them over the grey area. then shot another coat of black. then i removed the frisket stars.there are stars on the headtube also, but its hard to see. I like it, its subtle but cooland different. Now it needs some clear and it will be done. Pretty cool eh?

Nice paint job!  the stars are pretty cool, though I would have done pink and purple, but still sweet.

I have an issue with uploading pics up on this site.  I can't seem to upload any pics on the media section but in the other sections it seems to work.

I am uploading directly from my computer, it is jpeg and only around 100 kb's.

Anyone know what is going on?

I want to post some pics of my instrumental....

Damn Dmitry, that bike is gorgeous.  It's like a work of art.

I've said this before and I'll say it again... I always thought the aquaduct was a completely ridiculous and clunky looking frame, but now I think the metro is the sharpest, cleanest frame out there.  The guys at Sickchild absolutely nailed it with this frame IMHO.

Na, its just a standard bizhouse stem under there. I changed from a camo one to a black one and while i was there i put the sweat band on. Its for when i do inside tomahawk flips, i always cut the backside of my left knee. Hurts like a bitch.

I don't know if the instrumentals have the same design as the metros. I remember my seat way over the back tire on the instrumental  and my heels easily touching my back pegs when pedaling but the metros seem to have a bit longer back end. the short end is the only thing I disliked about my instrumental. but SC quality is super.

I wish I could get an instrumental with a 13.5 back end.
