Oh wow, very good video Jan niced style and nice nose manual!!!
The battles just started, and they are already exciting me haha!!

In my video I know it's a bit dark, but the last two combos are on the opposite peg dunno how that is called, does anyone know?

And thanks ondo for making the battles again!

Vote goes to Jan@Weiden. Flatargento's video is sick, especially that xfoot barspin but Jan showed more variety and more technical stuff.

Jan gets my vote. Just a greater degree of difficulty and variety.

Vote goes to Jan@Weiden!

Missed a little variety from flatargento

And maybe Ondo should recommend to every rider to use Vimeo. Maybe not every judge is able to use proxys! Stupid censorship from UMG, etc.

like the fortunate son song, and u are very dialed on pegwhellie variations ,but I need to see more, My vote would be for Jan,I would be more impressed If I had never seen flatland before,His variety makes it more interesting, But if it was just on a best trick deal, I would give it to flatargento without a doubt....

Wow, great battle. I would like to say - tie. But damn I can't. My vote goes to Steve Jordan. Good control on the hitchiker combo, good spining tricks, clean 360.
Jan was really good too. That cliffhanger was the best!

Really hard decission.

Title: Re: ROUND 5: INTERMEDIATE class (HellzCat vs Erik @ Austria)
Post by: 2flat2furious on June 19, 2011, 08:25:46 PM
Erik wins. One, for riding in a stupid small spot and two, the spinning stuff he did was just really solid (aside from the ride outs, which count but... ehhh dude stop setting your bike down).
Title: Re: ROUND 5: INTERMEDIATE class (HellzCat vs Erik @ Austria)
Post by: Rad255 on June 19, 2011, 08:58:33 PM
Really good battle but I think HellzCat has it. Erik was super super solid, but HellzCat edged him out with a hang 10 seat grab. I feel like double footed tricks are hard at this level. Not to mention laying your bike down is not a ride out in my opinion.
Title: Re: ROUND 5: INTERMEDIATE class (HellzCat vs Erik @ Austria)

Title: Re: ROUND 5: INTERMEDIATE class (HellzCat vs Erik @ Austria)
Post by: ondo on June 20, 2011, 08:31:43 AM
Really close battle.

Erik has the difficulty, but HellzCat the variety, and he did the same few tricks Erik was doing, but Erik added good variations (that I can't even do)

I have to give it to HellzCat for the variety!

hellzcat ,i enjoyed the video ,but what happend to 50 sec.,liked the music also, but erik that first and third steamlink was awsome, but I would try to keep the bikelaydowns to a minimum, looks good, just not everytime.....I think Erik@Austria, was the advancer in my opionion...

Ok ,i can't pick on this one,I can just say I have rode with both of these guys know, both of these guys ,true flatland motivators, and both are on the come-up, Ron I see so much progression,in your recent years keep it up,and Jim looking clean, and the videos look good,i need to step up my video' edits,So much clarity.....the wheat things in the front view looked really good...

Hard one here.
Kristaps wins on variety, but 3 out of his 5 combos are hella easy without cranks (caboose, hicker, cliffs). His other 2 combos are great!
Rodri did 2 solid combos and i think he wins on difficulty

Dudes should be buying cranks before going out and buying cameras to film themselves riding. Also, crankless isn't a "style" of anything other then laziness or economic hardship imo. Put them sh*ts on, folks.

too many crankless threads out there... this thread is for the battle. just judge crankless riders a bit harder, because something is easier without cranks. but dont hate against crankless, its still flatland and we should be treat them like others too.

Crankless riding itself is fine outside of a contest; got no problem with it there. In any case, apologies if I derailed the battle thread. Proceed.

Wouter takes the uncontested win because Kevin is a judge and well, yes he had the privilegie to send in his video later, he couldn't do it all, so that is why this battle still happened..

Anyway, Wouter will proceed and tomorrow we'll continue with quarterfinals, so film before- you never know what problems will occur when your battle comes..

Very good battle.... Erik rips, but his spot seems to be holding him back and limiting him a bit (I had the same issue riding in mostly small spaces over the years, making me a rolling trick retard... lol); what he accomplishes in that small space is amazing, but we don't get to see much outside of his front and back wheel spinning variations. Jm should probably take this one on variety, a little cleaner technique, and a bit of a difficulty edge (juggler lines, some good back wheel turbine/hop action); if Erik starts riding a bigger spot on a regular basis and opens up his style to a few more concepts though, look out!  -_-   Good stuff guys.

Doesn't Michael Sommer ride in that second spot in Erik's video?? great riding from both. Matt Wilhelm's riding style is the way it is because he said he was confined to riding in home garage's most of his earlier riding development.

Post by: 2flat2furious on July 14, 2011, 07:59:00 PM
JM.

Reason being, his lines just had more variety and difficulty for the most part. I think Erik had a few good tricks, but it was basically a spinning steamroller most of the video...
Title: Re: ROUND 5: INTERMEDIATE class (jm vs Erik @ Austria) voting active!
Post by: Ronny Engelmann @ Kassel on July 14, 2011, 10:04:59 PM
not easy but my vote goes to jm.

would erik does more turbine/rolling stuuff i would give it to him but this steamroller variations are not totaly different tricks.

I really liked jm's video in regards to his editing style. well made video!

But this does not count into my decision, what does count instead is riding of course!
erik's tricks are all just too similiar to each other to let him pass, so i will give my vote to JM

Erik, find a bigger spot! you will progress much more! Next round I want to see some rolling stuff from you :)

hmm. Andrew had two links, but Rodrigo repeated alot of individual tricks(hang nothing, cliff, hang-5 g-turn)...I'm not sure but it seems like this maybe a Volume of tricks vs. difficulty of tricks.

Andrew threw down a Half Packer juggler( with a bar flip), although Rodrigo did a Half Packer from a Hang-5( I do believe he rode it out)...hmmm

I know everyone's trying to get tricks in but I think the judges would like it more if they didn't have to speculate whether or not a rider rode out a trick...
Title: Re: ROUND 5: INTERMEDIATE class (ANDREWBMXFLATLAND4LIFE vs Rodrigo Huck) vote!
Post by: Ultraman Zoffy on July 22, 2011, 05:51:25 AM
Rodrigo was very smooth, but his edit was more or less a hang 5 variation demo (very well done though :). Andrew showcased several distinct concepts in his riding (scuffing, double foot rolling front and back, nice elephant glide barflip), so I'd be looking at him to move on in this specific battle.

This is a close battle, but I really liked Wouter's little rebate whiplash to jump to the pedals. I thought that was really clever. Kaan also set his bike down a hell of a lot which doesn't really count AGAINST him... but it's not winning him any points with me either.

Vote goes to Wouter.

my vote goes to kaan. the timemachine - cabooseglide combos was good and the last one too.  wouter gets points with halfpacker (isnt so hard to learn from a bar hop) and hitchhiker - steam - flip (was good because of scuffless flip). slighty better work from kaan here.

first of all i want to say something to wouter . i was disappointed. i do not have more experince than juries but i get angry. wouters tricks are nearly similar. it is not difficult to do hitchiker and halfpacker. i can say this because i can also do that tricks in my oppinion my backwhell stuffs are hard also pumping crosshand and barflip mc circle is difficult + variety the most difficult trick that wouter did is brakeless barflip i need to congratulate him because of that trick.but i think that it is not enough to win.in this battle i have only respects to wouter and ronny engelman and i thanks them...!!!

Post by: misterpola on August 12, 2011, 04:42:31 PM
As I'm a judge and you're not satisfied with my choice, i'll explain it to you. I base my judgement on my personal experience. I ride both front and backwheel, and i find backwheel tricks easier. Caboose and laryards are basic. The hicker juggler you did was very nice, but as TJ said, you set the bike down. Pumping a time machine doesn't really show me that you know how to spin them, in fact, pumping them is easier than actually spinning them. When i see wouters barflip i can clearly see that he can do steam rollers, xhand steams and pump them, plus he pulled a clean halfpacker and a hicker. Your last combo was awesome, but overall, wouters run was slightly better than yours. As i said before, this was a close call.
Title: Re: ROUND 5: INTERMEDIATE class (Steve Jordan vs jm)
Post by: Kaan Geylani on August 12, 2011, 05:21:54 PM
as i said before
if someone do hitchiker it is easy to do halfpacker. because this tricks are both double foot balance. if i could not do halfpaker i would not do any comment
are there any tricks that i can not do but wouters does ? i have more than him i have wheelie , time machine , cabose combo you are saying that these tricks are easy but they need lot of training. and you mentioned that barflip is more difficult than my combos i think this is redicilious....
Title: Re: ROUND 5: INTERMEDIATE class (Steve Jordan vs jm)
Post by: misterpola on August 12, 2011, 06:13:45 PM
just like you say hickers are the same as halfpacker, caboose is the same as laryard, and of corse you need to train a lot to get them as well. And man, i didnt say wouter barflip is better than all your combos! You probably understood it wrong.
Title: Re: ROUND 5: INTERMEDIATE class (Steve Jordan vs jm)
Post by: Kaan Geylani on August 13, 2011, 02:03:07 AM
yes lardyard and cabose are same but i can do hitchiker + cabose combos and this is my plus.and i am geting in and out cabose from time machine and this are the stuffs that wouters did not do. i think that you made wrong decisions. i hope you understand me. i get injusted experienced here.

thanks dude, I appreciate that!
I did my best, I'm happy with what I put out there, and happy with the progression that came from riding my tail off for months straight. not winning is cool, I already got the real prize, as did Steve :)

Wouter, sorry man, but it's not good to pull the battle so long. you have the battle for 3rd, so you have 4 days to make this one.

Rodrigo can use his material from last battle in the final!

My vote goes to Wouter. Hard tricks there. I like JM's originality but he lacked a bit of difficulty to beat Wouter. Nice one guys!

I think Wouter got this one. I dropped the ball, and he did better tricks. congrats!

Going to have to give this one to Wouter as well. Really good stuff and that goofy ass grin didn't hurt your chances either hahaha.

Jim, you still had some really neat and inventive tricks in there that I think have some real potential further down the line.

Yes, Wouter gets my vote too.

On the originality side jm definetly wins, but the originality does not gap the difference between the advancement of their combos.

oh and wouter: what song is that? heard it in the groundforce video once

Well
My vote goes to Rodrigo Huck

although Steve did alot of very difficult tricks/links (nohand hitchhiker, different stuff to cliffhanger for example) he repeated to many single tricks in multiple combos, that makes less of a variety in trickrepertoire (cool 360 btw, man!)

on the other hand rodrigo did alot of different tricks and repeated almost nothing in his combos (except for a crackpacker, to get into another more difficult variation and whiplash at the beginning of a combo, but not in terms of full combo-making single tricks like a halfpacker, karlcruiser etc.), also multiple whiplashes, a sick pivot aswell as a idontevenknowthename-wheelchair variation, very good!

and even though rodrigo used slightly less of his time, i still feel that he goes out with a plus!very well done, both of you! next time you can battle in expert class!

(wtf, my post gets written all fat and changes the format? sucks, seems almost like writing in caps... please note that this is not intended, haha)

Steve showed a nice variety of difficult tricks and a nice and fast backwheel combo.
Rodri did some of the hardest combos i've seen in intermediate class, but i'd have liked to see more backwheel from him.
I'm going with Rodrigo for the win here.

I was never told voting was active, so maybe the organizer should keep the judges better informed?

I'm going with Steve on this one. His combos had a lot more substance than Rodri's even though Rodri did do a few difficult things himself. I just think Steves were on the whole more difficult.

I'm not sure why some of you are saying that Steve should be marked down for repeating things with Rod repeated just as many tricks without building on variations than Steve did, but that's your opinion so whatever.

Sorry for the hold up..

My vote goes out to Rodrigo Huck.

Awesome riding by both, good variations, difficult tricks, really good level. Steve had good control & Rodrigo had difficulty, that is the little edge I give to Rodrigo.

Thanks!
