Some basic rules:
1)I announce the first battle between 2 riders. From the moment there is a 4 day limit for those two riders to film and send the video links via PM to me! This rule is just for fairness, it's nothing if you post it in the battle thread. When both riders have sent me links- I post them in the first and the last post of their group!
2)The video can be edited or unedited, but must be maximum 45 seconds long. When the first battle series in each group are over(8 battles), then the next round adds +15 seconds. So the lenght in series are:
- First 8 battles= 45 sec
- Quarterfinals= 1 min
- Semifinals= 1 min 15 sec
- Finals= 1min 30 sec
This is the maximum of video lenght- you don't have to fill it up compulsory.
3)The run can consist of combos or just tricks, but if edited, they should be with ride ins and outs.
4)For each battle your run must be different.
5)It is forbidden to use old, before filmed videos.
New rules about the video lenght.
1)A subjective point, but I can "allow" the rider to finish his combo and do the ride out if it goes just <10 seconds more.
2)So then there is a question, which combo can be longer?
- The combo which is started not later than 15 seconds before the end of the run.
3) It is hard to tell, if the run is too long, because, it can really contain small tricks in the beggining and the long one combo is pressed in the end, to gain extra time. That will be not allowed too.
For example: If you got two combos: 26 and 32 seconds long. If you put them together in that order, then you get 58 sec and the combo did start 15 sec before the end(as mentioned before), but the main rule wich corrects it all: If your run is over time limit, it is allowed only then, IF THE LONGEST COMBO IS IN THE BEGINNING!
I'll check every video and I'll be critical about the use of extra time!
4)If the video contains title(something meaningful), the video can be longer as the title lenght
5) If the rider can pull a combo for all his given time in run, my judgement on the time allowed will be subjective and slightly positive on allowing using the extra time.
So what is the solution?
- First off, if some rules are disobeyed, I'll ask to correctly repost the video(if only the 4 day period is still active). If not, the rider can be disqualified.
- There is another solution. If you don't want to repost the video, you can still proceed with the battle, but if you surpass the time limit unpermitted, then you'll recieve voting "fines".
For the time amount you overspend, you'll pay with votes.
<5 sec -10% votes
<10 sec -20%
<15 sec -30%
<20 sec -40%
and so on.
6)After both rider videos are posted or the 4day period is over- voting starts. Others watch both videos and vote.
7)Voting is active for 2days. The rider who recieves the most votes in 2days- winner.
8)You can vote just for one rider in a battle just once. Keep in mind it's subjective, but try to be objective a bit. Stick to these principles:
a) bike control
b) originality
c) difficulty
9)As voting has finished, the winner of the battle is announced.
10) The winner countinues to fight in the finals(if they are). The looser fails. (There could be some additional battles later)
11)The next battle starts after the previous battle ends.
12)Remember to check out all of the gruops and vote, because one battle will happen in each class simultaneously
13)Some changes into limits or structure can occur.
14) The winners will recieve prizes (not known for the moment)
15) Questions please in the main signing up thread!
16) If you are busy, please let me know I can arrange your battles. The list of those who are busy is in the signing up thread!

A note:
If you want to battle in a particular period of time, then just send me a message and say in which battle you could enter. The maximum lenght of a battle is 6 days, often less.
Just send me a message and say in which battle you would like to be. For example after the count of days. That would fasten the things a lot and some would know when to check the forum.

Wow Awesome comments thanks. This was a close battle for sure. Its fun to ride with your friends in friendly cometition. I texted brian among a few others and encoraged him to ride in the intermediate class because I knew he would kill it. I even offered to edit his video for him because he was looking for video editing software. This battle is very fun just as it should be.
Fo its okay that you choose to vote for brian. It was well deserved vote. I am still try to figure out the wrong direction thing but its cool because we are flatlanders and we all think differently. That's what makes our riding different from each other. I am glad you didn't say I ride just like everyone else. Hahaha

I guess the point being of everyone's post about your comment is this; I would assume that most people see flatland as a personal expression...therefore, there really is no right, or wrong way to do it. It's like art. Self expression.
This was a beauty of a battle. It was a hard decision.

Laredo is about 5 hours from the ATX. I drive to corpus once a month for work and hang out with Aaron Frost. Its about 95 from Larado. If you could make it there or maybe we could meet in between.
To bad we didn't have more time to ride Brian. Your Hang 5 to Peg Wheelie Combo was a Fatality Move....

sorry guys, im still away from home and still havent had a chance to ride or film in a few weeks now. got out for like 20 mins yesterday and felt like poo.

I have been in contact with Ondo today , and letting him know I will have to pass,and not be able to obligate myself to the video battle part(or parts if I proceed)

So, everything will be paused then, that includes time limits. But I would be grateful if the videos could be sent already.

I don't know if 4 days is up tonight or tomorrow night (this whole timezone difference is confusing the crap out of me) but I will have a video posted sometime tonight (it's currently 5:15pm for me). Sorry if it might be cutting it close but my camcorder isn't working (I should have checked that before signing up) and had to borrow one from a friend.
Don't expect too much from me though :(
I haven't got the links down that I was hoping to get for this comp. Everyone has really stepped it up this round of battles, I might have been better fit in beginner.

Ugh! Have you ever had a day where you really couldn't pull anything? That was today for me. So my video really f*cking sucks. I mean... I know I don't have any of those links dialed but I usually pull them 2-3 times a practice. Not tonight though :(
Actually I did pull one of the combos, then I looked at my camera and saw that it had tipped over (it was propped up on my bag) and hadn't actually recorded anything :(

So now new riders can't join Global? Is that considered tampering? I think it is great that new riders (or even just voters) sign up for global! It helps get the word out and grow this site and in return appreciation for flatland!

Chaincranker, what the f*ck. Turn the levels down on your screamo the next time you put a video up, and your video is like 3 minutes long. Edit it down so its as long as the footage.
You also don't show your first link ride out. It looks like you're about to touch but you cut it short. Don't cut footage out of your link.

chaincrankers video is so long, because his movie making software crashed. If there are no ride outs, then keep that in mind when judging. No disqualification. Just didn't like cuting 10 secs out.

I would like to get in on some of these battles....I've been lurking them on and off for quite a while but I have lost the power cord to my only camera. I'm going to keep searching, I'll be moving soon so finding it should become easier in the next couple of weeks.
If something comes up and I can get in on a battle I could prolly borrow a cam from someone and get a vid up!!!

Points work like this
Number of Votes = 1 point
Submitting a video = 110 for Intermediate Class
Perctage points = The % of votes = points (This is where the biggest differance happens. If you have 85% of the votes you get 85 points. If there is a big differance between votes then you will score more points.
Winning the battle gets you 100 points.
If you have a uncontesed win you recieve 1 point your competeitor gets 0. The big draw back is the percentage bonus. You don't get another 100 points with 100% you get 50 points because it would take atleast 51 percent to win a battle.
I will make a screen shot so you can see it. I tried making web pages but the progam was acting screwy. I posted a link for Open Office. I don't know if they make a mac version.

Looks like everyone is giving up on this. It's 6 days and not a message from them.
I think I'm gonna start disqualifing and just put rest of the riders in battles of 3 per battle.

I think some of the issue is not everyone checks everyday. There is a handy tool for Email Notification when some on post something in thread. If everone that is particiaptig in these battles could use this function. This could help out. You will need to look at your email everyday. This is a great solution. I have attached a photo for anyone that has never used it before.
I have subscribed to each battle thread so I know when something has changed so I can updated the Spred sheet. Don't worry, if you only get one email for a reply until you come back to the forum to look at all of the replies in a thread.

OK these battles are getting drawn out way too long. I can understand things cming up, rain, work, illness, whatever. BUT, Ondo has been begging everbody to go ahead and film and not wait until the last minute. There is no reason to wait until your name is posted to start taping. Reality of this is, although he says "You have four days" Everyone except the first participants have had ample time.
Something to think about. Ondo is a rider just like us. He wants to ride everyday, just like everbody else. Plus he has thrown his name in the hat in these battles. These battles are really a great effort on his part and Im sure he has other things to do also. Every time somebody has a broken bike part, or is sick, or its raining or all these other excuses and he has to rearrange the battles, or the brackets. Or keep responding and monitoring, its taking away from his personal time as well. Im sure he wants to be out riding and progressing like everyone else.
Not checking daily is not an excuse, because if people turned in their videos and Ondo didnt post them because he didnt know he had received them because he "Didnt check in daily" he would be flamed mercilessly for it.
Come on people, this is really a great thing Ondo is doing, quit making it hard on him or even worse turn it into something that he regrets ever starting.

Honestly, when Alex signed up for this class...he probably was an intermediate. But the guy progresses so FAST...he literally picks up new tricks every week. We have guys at the OG that have been riding for years and they show him a trick one week, and by the next he is basically doing that trick already.
Be on the look out for this guy going pro in a few years...I'm calling it now.

Alex is an amazing rider. As far as I know he has only rode in one competion. That was Texas Flatland Round Up 4 last year. I have that footage and will share it again so you can see how far he has really come in just a year. He is a the top of the Intermediate class. That is for sure. Someone has to take first place. It couldn't go to a more Outstanding rider!

Yes, I am. I use to have outside dogs, we never got rid of the concrete slab, so I just ride on it sometimes. It's really small and really difficult to ride on.

I sent Ondo video yesterday. I knew my time was comming so I was ready. Good thing becuase I have been with out a bike for the past few days. Still waiting on new tires to get here. I have a HOLE in my tire so I keep getting flats. Its time to let that tire go away and get some new ones.
I have been learning new tricks since I participated in the online battles. Its truly Amazing because typcially it takes me a life time to do something close to new. My progression and consitantcy is building up each day I ride.

I learned halfpacker long long time ago, i could step them in from the ground, even could do backpacker, but never had some option to ride them in.. i landed my first crackpacker 2 weeks ago and i thought why not try to get into halfpacker from a crackpacker! and it worked hehe! it was really wobbly and shaky but soon you will see some smoother clip!
BTW all stuff that i did in my video was learned in 2 days, ok the other stuff where some basics because i was out of new stuff, and when in began riding flat i never learned the basics so this was a good excuse to learn them! I did an double tailwhip woah!
And yes that messiah to cliffhanger made me look! dang dang ding dong! amazing, i can do hang5's, hang nothing's and much other variations with my eyes closed but cliffhangers are so f*cked up!
And Mark youre next combo is gonna be messiah->cliffhanger->hang5-steamroller-hitchhiker!
you can do al those stuff now only link it together!

Funny you say that. I have been thinking the same thing. I just need to learn to link my cliff to steam. I have been try with not much success. The way I keep pushing my self when I am riding.....ANYTHING is possible...
I have no Doubt that Wouter will be doing smooth crackpackers to halfpackers back to crackpackers.....WHOOOAAAA! This compettion has really pushed all of us harder than we usually would ride. Got to love the Progression.

Great riding and progression from both of you guys. Truly remarkable. Wouter you seem to have learned a ton since the beginning of these battles. Mainly because if I remember correctly, one of your first videos had a plain hitchhiker in it and I believe you said you had just learned that. Now alot of good rolling tricks have started working for you. Great. Mark, you just keep on putting more and more tricks together and comboing all your stuff up. A little more practice and I can see some 4-5 minute links in your future. LOL Great stuff.
I was kind of on the fence with this one until Mark threw down the Messiah to Cliff. Had to go with him after that one. But it was neck and neck until then.
Wanted to add that I just got back to Florida from Texas and it was such an awesome trip. Hang out with the Texas crew for awhile and it becomes obvious why they al progress and ride so well. They are not just a group of flatlanders, they are a bunch of great guys. Granted, I met some at Voodoo and some through the Forum here, but when I got there, it was like they were all already my friends. I could go on for days about how great they all are. Was gonna mention a few names but that would take too long. Lets just say that I didnt meet one rider out there that wasnt just a great guy in general. Thanks for the fun times while I was there guys. Thanks to Chris Bailles for putting on a great event and trusting me enough to judge. LOL Cant wait to ride with you all again. Making plans for next year already but hope to see many of you in Atlanta next month.

But it was an nice experience, the next round of the battles im not in, cause its raining and raining over here, and i dont have an indoor spot!

The same with me. I progressed very fast before the 1st battle round, but then just stopped and had to dial everything to move on. Work with the tricks you learned..
Don't worry, the next round will be after winter, because I'm in a similar situation.

Not to be negative, but I'm in the same boat as Wouter. After I lost my second battle, I kinda felt discouraged. While others here have lost and have just kept progressing. I'm kinda moving backwards. I had a lot of stuff I wanted to film, but it was very hard considering I work full time and don't own a camera or even have a decent spot to film. I do not want to compete in the next battle. Good luck to the finalists!

lou, you can use the videocam on a reg digi camera or even an iphone. u dont need fancy equipment. set up a tripod of sorts and let it roll for an hour. edit out your best 6 mins. thats 3 battles and a spare vid. voila.

I will definitely keep that in mind. No, I have not looked for a camera yet. The only thing that is keeping me from progressing is not having a spot to ride at the moment. I keep getting kicked out of areas and all the places around here are not very ride worthy. But thanks for the advice, I will keep it in mind.

Okay I filmed some more today. I am done. My biggest issue now is it can't be on Vimeo until possibly Sunday because I used my 500 megs of video on Round Up 5. Whooaaa Thanks for the comments. Brad...YOU ROCK!! This entier experiance has been so much fun. I was looking at my June 15 video call My Best Combo's Ever. Its been about 4 months and I have done so many more tricks since then. Each round I kept pushing my self harder and harder. The motivation for me has been through the roof.

The only reason I want a new frame is because this one has taken it share of spills and may only last another year or 2. I ride it hard. I always say if your not falling your not trying. My bike spends has spent more time on the ground than rubber on the road. hahha

I have noticed no one else has brought it up but the Points that I have been keeping track for everyone will be thrown off in the last battle. It will not be consitant with everything else that has happen for every other battle.
I do have a solution. I need to know how many judges there will be. Since the Average amount of voters is around 50-60 if there are 6 Judges each judge can represent 10 votes. So there would be a totlal of 60 votes.
I have invested a ton of time into this spread sheet for it to fall apart on the last battle.

Well, I can't tell will all the judges vote. Some haven't replied yet. But yes, 6 people agreed to be judges. If the result is 3:3, then I can be the last judge.
Right now I have just 3 votes. And it's 2 to 1, but I won't say anything else he he.

I think it's not important for everyone to know who the judges were. And they still gonna be the same for the master final, sooo let's leave it like this.
Yea, they did have to write a paragraph with arguments for their vote. I read it and it wasn't any bias or what. I can just say, the arguments were similar. 2 said it for Mark, but 4 for Brad. Both wheel combos played a important role..
We have a lot of time to prepare for the next round, which will start only after winter, because guys like me don't have the best conditions to ride now.. So, the voting about the system still remains open.
