It would be interesting to know how many people showed up to the contest and didn't enter, rather than support flatland and show at least an iota of regard for the sport as a whole.

I agree,
if rules and social pressures were put into place to constrain and hoard riders as Mr Jowee sees
fit, we would subsequently see a demise in the level of creativity. Its "cute" for Jowee to pass
judgement, especially considering he is not even there "supporting flatland" based on his own views.

Congrats Tyler!!

----Not sure what that's all about, but all 3 of the U.S. pro riders placed in the top 10, top 9 actually, out of 43, I'd say it's quality over quantity really.  -_-  But congrats to Sam and Adam and all the other non-U.S. top finishers of course, very very skilled and deserving riders, been kind of wondering when Adam would start placing up in the top 3-5.  ;D

The level of riding I have witnessed so far is absolutely insane!  Never before have seen this many riders at this level.  Aside from the major competing pros in North America, compared to the European scene, flatland is dead in North America.
Title: Re: MASTERS SO FAR
Post by: Mr.Jowee on July 05, 2008, 11:24:49 PM
It's halfway around the globe, and I have neither the money nor the vacation time. If I was there, I would have entered. I wouldn't show up to a contest, especially a big one like the Masters, and not enter. And that's coming from me; there's not even a remote possibility that I would place well.

And they didn't buy flatland bikes to support flatland. They bought them so they could ride the f*cking things. I didn't buy my car to show moral support of a Saudi prince.

Congrats Sam on your first place win!  Congrats to everyone of course.  And let's keep the negativity out of this post.  If you ride flat or don't ride flat but go out of your way to show up at a contest, pay admission fees, or buy product from vendors, you're supporting flatland.  You don't need to be a competitor to support the sport.  Let's support the sport right now by not being so negative.  thanks.

What the hell?

What's up with the flatland tent (and even more the SPACE to actually ride) getting smaller every year? And that in combination with the growing number of riders present every year. I don't get it.
How are you supposed to get in some practice before your run with an overcrowded spot like that?

Do they think making small 'jam circles' like this will improve the 'friendly flatland-related bonding warm fuzzy feeling' of the riders and spectators?

I'm puzzled.

Actually glad I didn't go to compete. I would've been pissed haha

Does Sam have anything new now that he wasn't doing at Voodoo?

I thought he was awesome at Voodoo (even though he touched at the very end of his links if I remember correctly), but he only got ninth place or something and didn't make it out of the first round of the finals.  Is he doing some even better stuff now?  Or just hitting his runs perfect?

----Be warned, they are quicktime format. And not that anyone cares, or I need to justify direct links, but I couldn't get them to play, just 3 Braun ads or whatever, then nothing.  Hopefully these links work, so that others can see what little freecaster managed to post, and not be left with some lame Braun ad and nothing else for their time.

Added: After watching them, I'd almost say don't bother, it's about 40 seconds of riding per person. Really sad, at least back when agoride still covered flatland they'd show 4 minute best-of clips.

With all respect to awesomeness of all the pro riding at this event, to truly appreciate the level of riding anyone attending witnessed, videos of the expert and master class would be perfect.  So much amazing riding went down this weekend in those two classes.
As for the most original riding, that title is awarded to the riders from Greece - tricks I've never even thought of being done, as well as tricks I've never seen before.

----If you, or anyone needs help posting torrents for all the pros class runs, I'd be happy to help. The easiest way overall, is snail mail me a dvdr of the footage, and I can render it to .wmv format and post it as a 1gig or so torrent. Then no shipping costs for anyone, and no hassles for the guy who shot the footage to have to go to the post office 25 times to make back less than min wage for the time spent. Or, on that note, I'd pay $10-$15 for a dvdr of all 43 pro class runs if yer that ambitious to put it all together like that. :)

----Ha-ha, I can't believe that guy is like a real karate expert (3rd degree black belt), has a degree in chemical engineering (masters degree that is), and speaks half a dozen languages, and the high points of his career were a sh*tty rocky sequel and playing 'he-man' in masters of the universe. I guess there's no accounting for taste.
----Anyways, daily bump, is the Master's video on it's way Global, what happened, you said the video was done like literally a month ago ? We just wanna see it man, we know it's gonna be good. :)

You guys are greedy and whiney as f*ck.

You want to see what down at the masters?  Then show the f*ck up!

Don't even try to make it out to the event, and start bitching like crazy for footage.  You guys are acting like Global owes it to you to put up the footage.  They owe you nothing.  If the vid doesn't come, it doesn't come; if it does, thank the f*ck out of them for putting in their time and effort to share it with you selfish bastards.

----Sure yer right, greedy & whiny, but f*ck you, Global said (in THIS thread) that video was done and would be up in a couple days as soon as they switched servers or whatever the issue was, and that was a month ago. If they wanna say hey kids, we lost the video, or we sold it to Props for their next issue or whatever, then fine it's their video etc. like you said they went to the comp and took the time to tape it and all, we're just asking 1) where is it ?, and 2) can we see it now ? Why no answer from Global is the odd part, surely they read their own forums no ? *shrug*
