Maybe they were talking about something else.
Take it apart and you'll see. There are two tabs 180 apart that run in two semi- circular slots. The max slack is limited by the length of the slot. The cut o-rings that I inserted into the slot limit the backpedal rotation of the driver. The driver doesn't have to travel the full slot length forward before the pawls extend and engage the hub body.
The first time I tried it, the length of the o-rings spacers I cut was too long. This resulted if very little slack.
