Products look gorgous, and no chrome flacking risk there
Freestylers would want to replace these too short axle to use pegs
and wtf is that weird old on the rear hub, oh wait is that to compensate a regular inaccuracy on frame spacing?

What is the appeal of high flange? Is it just a cosmetic thing or is there a benefit like less flex / stiffer wheel due to shorter spokes or something?

That's basically it. The wheel becomes a bit stiffer.

In oldschool days they made a big difference because of the low quality of parts. Nowadays not so much.
