Who is the oldest flatlander?
« on: September 17, 2007, 06:42:04 PM »
I have been thinking, who is the oldest flatlander?
By age or by riding years? Retired or still in active?

Also, Dennis rode flatland way past 1989, I remember him still riding flat when he was sponsored by Mongoose

i am the oldest period
46 years old and been riding since 1989
off and on as i had some health issues.

but age wise i am the oldest for sure at 46 years old
and ill ride til im 70 years if i can and i dont think anyone
going to break that record.

lol

MUTTS LIVING HISTORY OF RIDING...UNOFFICIALLY
OFCOURSE!

1971-1975..schwinn days and i had a yellow schwinn
stingray i use to ride and jump off hills, curbs etc...look
for me in the joe kid on the stingray video!

1975-1986--raced bmx in ABA, NBL, USBMXA, UBR, NBMXA,
AND THE MANY OTHER SANCTIONS..SPONSORS INCLUDED
CO-FACTORY REDLINE, FACTORY JAG BMX AND BANDITO
RACING...#6 national amateur in 1979 in the ABA!

Rode some Sundays at Golden Gate Park with the
Curb Dogs..became very good friends with Vanderspek
and became a member of the Curb Dogs!

1986-1988---skated vert with the likes of Steve Caballero,
Tommy Guerrero and skated a bunch with Rodney Mullens
who lived in Oaklnad at the time.

1988-1991-met this fat ass kid on a pink gt pro team performer
named Gabe Weed and the rest is history as later i met
Andrew Arroyo, Joe Pioloski(sponsored by lifes a beach),
Eric Emerson. Pistol Pete Brandt, Aaron Dull, and many others
and ride at Golden Gate Park every Sunday!

WOULD LATER MEET Jesse Puente, Leo Dumloa, Nate Hanson,
Richard Z, Ron Mccoy, Sean Mckinney, Day Smith, Edgar
Placenta and his brother Ivan Placenta aka the Flatland Fugutives
and they would come up here to ride with us and we go down there
and we became the best of friends. Andrew Arroyo, Gabe Weed,
myself and Steve Nevias would become the Northern part of the
Flatland Fugitives. Our little group of 13 riders would get bigger with
Sean Peters, Dylan Worlsey and Phil Dolan becoming Flatland Fugutives.

THE JINX OR BAD OMEN OF THE FLATLAND FUGUTIVES?

Tragically Richard Z died in a car accident coming back for the York Jam
with Edgar being critically hurt and Ivan who was driving was also
hurt in the car crash. Jesse Puente was also involved in a serious
car crash later in which his car he was driving FLIPPED OVER SEVERAL
TIMES IN THE SAND DUNES AREA AND THEY ESCAPED SERIOUS HARM
BUT IT WAS A VERY BAD CRASH(read this in the Flatland Kings Book)
Mutt was sick with a brain tumour and almost died in 1995 and had a
5 hour operation but had a relasped that almost killed him with the
complete crash of his immune system and serious lung and respirtory
collasped system. Leo Dumloa also had some health issues and he is
now partly crippled on one side with serious nervous system problems
and can no longer ride flatland and walks with a cane!

Mutt did not ride flatland from 1996-2001 because of the tumour
and relasped and has been riding when his health is good since
tho recemtly he had another bad episode this week where he had
a bad lung/respirtory virus that had him throwing up blood and
ended up in the Hospital once again. He will always have this
poor lung/respirtory problem but wants to ride no matter what
and will when he can..hardcore rider!

Conceptual Mutt.

46...going on 12,  that is a compliment. Hope your lungs clear up completely.

There must be riders/Flatterss who rode before Mutt and during the late 60's...he can't be the oldest.

What was Flatland before it was coined as 'Flatland', does it go back to being called
'Artistic Cycling.' and who was the person(s) who developed this style of riding in BMX or has it come about by those exhibiting in such events as the circus/stunt riding during the 20's, 30's?

I remember way back in 88 there was this guy that was 32 and competed in the 18 and over novice class for flatland in the NBL...

He'd be 51 now...

I'm sure some guys here would remember him. He always wore a sweatsuit.
