Frames for Shorter Riders
« on: February 22, 2017, 04:27:03 AM »
Hello all.  Okay, I'm currently riding a DK signal with a 19" tt, and I believe a 13 1/2" rear. I'd like to find a frame close to 18" or under if possible, with a shorter rear end. Any ideas? I'm 5'5", and straining my back to reach the seat in a simple fork glide. Frame weight isn't really an issue under 5 lbs.

Also in 18" theres the Suelo Moto or Flamon Core if you can get them from Japan.

Imports tend to be very pricey to ship. I'll have to post an ad in the wanted section unless I find something local.

I don't know much about the Signal. But, I'm guessing that it has 14mm dropouts? When dropping down to 18" or so I think most dropouts are 3/8". I could be wrong there but wanted to throw that out as something to pay attention to. Would hate to see you find yourself a new frame and then have to build a new rear wheel up to fit it.

I think you can still find 14mm in 18.5" pretty easily. Take a look through Flatlandfuel if you haven't already. I recall seeing some 18.5" with 14mm when I was looking for frames not too long ago. Maybe Pat over there has some way of importing something specific (or out of stock) that wouldn't cost you a fortune too.

good luck finding your frame!

I quickly looked and this is the frame I was thinking of when you said 18" or under. However, it's out of stock in that size (17.9"):

Thanks for the reply. I'm lucky enough to have two freecoaster wheels. One in 3/8, and another in 14mm. I may have to find a cheap frame with a short tt and build around it for the time being.

I'm also 5'5". I ride a WE Bicycles Equation with an 18" tt and a 12.75" rear.  Check their website http://www.webicycles.bigcartel.com

They can do 3/8 or 14mm dropouts

I hope that helps

Thanks again for the advice, everyone. Right now, I'm going to experiment with my seating and bar positions to see if I can get a more comfortable feel. It's hard to believe that a single inch can make such a difference!
