Short Guy Looking for Input
« on: June 15, 2016, 12:51:20 PM »
Hi Guys,

I'm looking for some input on frame geometry relative to my size. I'm 5'5" tall and weigh 145-150 pounds. I'm riding a Reklamation SKJ with a 19" tt and 13-1/2" cs.  Would there be much advantage to a smaller frame, like maybe 18-1/2" tt and 12-3/4" cs?

What set up do some of you smaller riders run?

Thanks,

Chris

you will probably be more comfortable on a shorter frame

I'm about the same size. It depends on what you're trying to do. I rode a 19" frame for a while and was pretty fine for front wheel but a little too big on some backwheel tricks where you're sort of climbing around the bike and the pegs and bars are a little further away. Same issue with tall bars and/or seat: not bad for front wheel, somewhat harder for back wheel. So I run an 18.5/12.5 frame and now and can't see switching though it's a little bit twitchy when i ride around the city.

Any thoughts on a frame with an 18"tt? I know it's all preference and feel, but could get a good deal on a frame.  18"tt and 12.75"cs.

Thanks for helping me out.  Frame geometry can play such a big role in riding.

My friend used to ride back wheel on an 18" frame and killed it! But then moved to 18.8" and also killed it. Because he had offset forks and a low seat it didn't look or ride too weirdly. I was kind of surprised that it didn't feel super small on me, but i didn't really ride it enough to try many different positions.
