AFA Series 2016 Schedule and AMFLT Hiatus
« on: January 23, 2016, 10:18:22 AM »

Many of you probably read that the AFA is kind of reborn. First of all a little history lesson for the younger riders: the AFA (American Freestyle Association) was formed in the 80s and organized flatland and ramp contest until 1989. Check 23mag.com for more information. James McGraw announced last week that the American Flatland Association was formed and will organize a series of contest this year:

"I'm very excited to announce that I will be putting a new twist on an old idea. With help from Todd Carter Joe Cicman and John Yull, we are proud to announce the introduction of a true American Flatland Circuit. The AFA "American Flatland Association" In the 80's the AFA "American Freestyle Association" put American Bmx on the map with grassroots contest coast to coast. The new AFA is focusing its energy on the American flatland scene to showcase the amazing talent that is here in America and seemingly gets overlooked. We will be holding four events this year. They will be both east and west coast, starting in Orlando, Florida then Detroit, Michigan, Los Angeles, California and Colorado Springs, Colorado. This should give everyone a chance to attend at least one event." - James McGraw

In the meantime the first 2 stops have been announced in March and May:

March 26th in Longwood, Florida: AFA Series 2016 Round 1
May 28th in Royal Oak, Michigan: AFA Series 2016 Round 2

You might be wondering what that means for the AMFLT series. The answer was posted on their Facebook page today:

"With its developement in 2009, the goal of the Am Flatland Circuit has been to help grow the scene in North America. We wanted to give riders a platform to showcase their craft. We created a ranking system in North America and provided a way for riders to move up through the ranks. AMFLT is as much a community as it was a contest series.
Since the first AMFLT event, rider participation has grown yearly. We also went from almost not having enough events to have a proper season, to having too many to include them all. The North American scene is hard to gauge because of how spread out it is. We think that series like Trans Jam and now the new AFA is proof of how strong the scene is becoming. AMFLT has and will remain focused on building up the next generation of flatlanders in North America. At this time, we feel the best way to do that is to support the AFA the best we can. Rather than compete with AFA we would rather work side by side with them. AMFLT, or American Flatland, is the riders. It is the scene. This won't change and we hope it only grows! However, the AMFLT "circuit" will be on hiatus starting in 2016. We plan to work with the AFA in helping continue the goal of growing flatland. We also plan on focusing on developing more flatland jams and schools to help encourage new riders to join the sport.
Thank you for supporting AMFLT for the last seven years! We hope to see more riders than ever on the contest scene in 2016."

What about Canada? The AFA is planning to do event in the USA only where AMFLT featured contests in both countries. We wouldn't be surprise to see some news from Dub sooner than later. Let's see ...

Ha! What about Canada? Nothing! What a surprise. Can't get decent produce year round at the grocery store, as if flatland is going to expand and progress up here. Dead ass broken scene nation wide. A few tiny clusters of riders peppered sparsely...maybe.
I'm glad Dubs the ambassador for the entire country. Everything's gonna be alllllright...lol
Already on the right track for 2016 with Canadian events being postponed/dropped as usual. Hiatus, whatever.
Ooooooooooh Canada. The cold desolate north of loner flat hermits.
