Tall rider looking for a new bike
« on: June 16, 2015, 09:58:02 PM »
Hi guys,

I used to ride flatland around 10 years ago and am wanting to get back into the sport.  I am 6' 2" and wear size 13 shoes.  I don't know my exact arm reach, but I know it is significantly longer than most people.

I'm wanting to get a new bike, but am concerned about the short top tubes I am seeing on the Ares bikes and others.  Will an 18.5 work for a taller guy like me?  I was looking at the Ashura and the APlus.  I would prefer a complete, but can build a bike up from parts if I need to.

Fwiw, my previous bike was a Standard Shaman frame.

Thanks!

I'm 6'1" w/ long arms and I prefer top tops between 19.25" to 20".  I definitely think 18.5" will feel too small for you.

Thanks for the information!  I suspect you are right on the 18.5.  What frame (s) do you ride?

A lot of us in the 6' range are riding 19" and longer frames. I myself ride a 19.5" reklamation and my buddy rides one of the new Hoffman Strowler 19.75" frames and he loves it. Tall 9" bars are the way to go as well. Longer 30-40mm length stems help too. Hope this helps ya out!

Metal BMXER is right on the money. I'm 6'1 w/ a 19.5 frame & 9"bars. It feels good to me. Maybe you could consider frame/fork/bars combo like the We The People Utopia set. Their frames have toptube lengths of 20" with slight offset forks & 9" bars. This is just one example; whatever suits you though...

I"m 6'3" and have size 13 feet also. One  problem with the new bikes is the rear triangles are so short that you hit your feet on the pegs.  I ride a PIR custom with 13.75 rear and 20.25 top tube. I run 160 cranks and feel very comfortable.

I ride a 19.25" / 13"  WE Bicycles Equation frame with a 48mm stem and 9" high bars.  Feels pretty comfortable for me.
