Thoughts on the Z Coaster
« on: April 29, 2015, 10:37:50 PM »
I'm a profile fan, and just ordered a hub for a race bike, and saw the Z Coaster - I though this was never going to happen, but is it a street type hub a flatland hub? It appears Chad Degroot is using it. I'm just wondering what the deal is.
I'm not rushing out to buy one, but maybe I should start saving?

I was hoping that profile would have drivers in different sizes like their other hubs, or the drivers would be interchangeable.

It's a cassette that can freecoast.
The following is the truth.  The preceeding is a lie.

I'm wondering if the only difference the Z Coaster and the Eclat Blind Freecoaster is a polymer bushing and "Z" shape rings which would only make it louder

Anyone know if this might be true?

Well, that's good to know

I hope it proves to be as reliable as they say  Only time will tell

So far.. not one review from the general public

I really hope the profile freecoaster works well :)
but I don't have much faith in the pawl type freecoasters considering previous hubs like the ezra made horrible noises when engaging!
I really want to see a video of someone testing the profile properly, like doing tricks where they use the engagement to pivot around out of fakies etc.

For the price they're asking.. you would think they would submit a video with proof vs all other coasters that it is worth the money

I watch Chad D ride his but he wasn't really doing much other than roll backs on the pedals and fakies on the mini ramp, but he would 180 bh out rather than engage the pedals so I couldn't see if it actually works vs the Ezra in that situation.. I hope this is it for freecoasters

Well they just came out a week or two ago, so its natural there aren't any reviews yet.

As far as testing, this video came out a year ago:

That video showcaes the rider more than the hub.

It needs to given to a street/vert rider in order to find out if this thing really holds its weight

Of course it was tested in street for a long time. That's actually the main market for this hub.

That review was pointless

The kid was a beginner by far .. come on he called the rear cog a "Sproket Thingy"

Really  :P

I heard a loud clank noise every time he engauged it.. I guess we have to see some real reviews later

I've seen and ridden one and apparently engagement sounds such as clanks or popping is inherent to the cassette pawl freecoaster design. I can't speak to how often the Z-coaster makes these sounds in comparison to an Ezra/Saltplus Trapez hub. To be clear I've just tried one and know someone who owns a Z-coaster and am just posting my observation of the hub to contribute to this thread.
