Hoffman Bikes flat bikes for 2014.
« on: October 17, 2013, 11:51:56 PM »
Word on the street is that Hoffman is POSSIBLY releasing two flat frames in 2014.

One being a retro Big Daddy.

Can you dig it?

I'd love for this to be true, but HB hasnt released any new product since 2012 -there was no 2013 line, and the weren't at Interbike this year to show off any new product for 2014. They've given no explanation as to why, and the website has no 2014 product listed. The reissue Big Daddy rumor has been flying around since at least 2012.

That being said, I'll be first in line to get one if they make a reissue Big Daddy.

Anyone have any updates?  I tried contacting HB directly, I haven't heard back yet.  If they are going to release any 2014 product they had better do it very soon, the development cycle for 2015 should be ramping up for most companies in just a bit.

I don't mind waiting for this vaporware new flatland frame, but there's been rumors about it for more than 2 years, and if it's not going to happen, I wish that HB would just say so.  The told me this time last year that new product would be coming out in the spring - last spring - but nothing ever did.

If they had something in the works wouldn't it have been at Interbike?

The story most often told is that HB is owned by a Taiwanese business owner who also has an interest in a few other BMX brands, and that Hoffman is an employee now. But there's never been an official announcement, and the people involved and who could say for sure have never said one way or another, and that story has been making the rounds for at least seven years, so who knows now? Things might have changed since then, or maybe it wasn't the case in the first place.  I just want to know if they are making a flatland frame I'd like this year, and when, exactly, will it be available to buy. If not, I'm getting a custom one made somewhere else.  I'm tired of waiting for this reissue/updated Big Daddy that was supposed to happen two years ago.

I had heard a story a few years back that Hoffman bikes had made an order for bikes from a factory in Taiwan but were unable to pay for it. And to get the bikes a deal was made for a percentage of the company.

No idea if there was any truth to it, but I am surprised that HB isn't as big as it could have been.

2013 was a dead year for most companies smaller than a "Trek", "Giant" or "Pacific"   Giant placed a HUGE, HUGE order in late 2012.   Any small companies that were not "in the jig" already, at that time got pushed back.   Giant was opening corporate owned stores to compete against treks corporate stores.  They needed stock to fill all these stores.  Keep in mind there are only 3-4 "major" manufactures in Taiwan.  The rest make the lil sidewalk bikes and toys you see for sale on the corners where abandon gas stations sit.
