Odyssey Flatware 38mm Hinged Stem

Check out what Effraim spotted on Terry's bike. It's a hinged Odyssey Flatware stem. Apart from those rusty screw's it looks sexy ;-) How do you like it?

I want this! ,been holding back on new stem ( been on bizhouse xl for years and its knackerd) and ive been after a not so short/long stem and now boom- hope the back is smooth? cant wait

Well it's not smooth exactly as it has the two-bolt system on the back, which is kind of a bummer.

Besides the reach, an important detail on flatland stems is the "smoothness" and sadly it's overlooked in most cases.

In this case the gimmick of the chain link plates was more important...

The funny thing is that the Lincoln and Tomahawk stem actually have a smooth back... and they mention it: "The stem’s fully internal clamp design also means that the back of the body can be bolt-free, and knee-friendly."

So now they design a flatland stem that's NOT knee-friendly, precisely the design feature that's most important to flatlanders...

I prefer the two bolts in the back. I ran the Tomahawk for months and it just slips and slips. And if you try to tighten it up more the internals bend up and/or it dents your steer tube.

I have an impression that the two-bolt system is probably a more safe dependable design, like what Rad is saying. I've been using my KHE Minimalism with the smooth back for 3 years now and it doesn't slip. I'm probably the only person who likes that stem or hasn't have it disintegrate on them though. Have you heard about the S&M Redneck slipping? I like that stem too, but now that i've tried 35mm+ stems I really like that size over the short 25mm ish stems.

I hope this isn't going to be the next Flatware stem. I don't like anything about it. It might feel great because of the reach and rise option but stems aren't cheap so I'd want a little more out of it. If I can buy  another stem that just looks better or isn't just a shorter BMX stem and not a flatland specific stem, I don't see any reason not to buy it over this.

I love my flatware stem. I was running bar stem combos (KHE Swiss Miss) for the longest but finally switched been fantastic.

Whoa I hadn't seen the Tree Collet before. I'm going to need a minute to adjust my brain because right now that thing looks crazy. I'm definitely intrigued.

that 38/40mm Tree stem may just be the best looking stem ever! any feed back on how well they grip the bars/forks?

Since I ride a front brake I was worried I'd have to take the cable all apart every time I changed or removed my bars (which isn't that often I guess), but according to the video I could leave the cable in place and keep the compression bolt on because the top plate of the stem is not held down by the comp bolt/fork cap.
