Getting the jump for whoopers
« on: May 27, 2013, 10:32:44 PM »
I recently started learning this trick, no longer afraid of it. I looked at the how to video Terry Adams did a bunch of times and searched around on the forums but didn't find much on how to get jump right.

Can anyone spare some tips on how to get the jump right?
Forget getting a $100 spindle to save weight, get a $40 bottle of steroids and do some push-ups.

I can get the hops not the whips lol.. Its all about getting the pivot point right. Front wheel up real high, power the back end up. You know down, back & up on the pedals just before you level out kick the back end out & hopefully land to the pedals (Landing on the Top Tube doesn't count :P)

It took me a while to figure this out.  If you can hop 360, then you have the hops necessary for hop whips.  Just keep the bike under you, and try to hover above the stem when you're in the air.  I found that halfcab whips were easier to learn than hop whips.  Once I learned halfcab whip, forward hop whips just kind of came naturally.
The following is the truth.  The preceeding is a lie.
