Federal V2 / KHE ASTERN Question
Joey S:
Got tired of waiting and finally went for the Federal v2. So far so good. It's got the slack I was looking for.
I noticed one thing though. The hub feels like it's lagging a bit; like it's too tight or something. The best way I can explain this is that it can barely get to one full crankflip if I try to crankflip. I guess it's fine, can't really notice when I'm just pedaling. Just want to make sure nothing's wrong with the hub.
I already read that you should loosen up the driver side cone nut to be finger tight. Do I do the same on the non-drive side too? I also tried not tightening the axle nuts too. Still feels the same.
Anyone know if this is normal?
Joey S:
Today I'm hearing some creaking noises from it. It's been less than a week. The bearings can't be broken already can it? Haven't done anything too crazy yet.
The Brown Sound:
Did you overhaul the hub when ou first got it? I've heard so many complaints of the KHE style hubs running wonky until they are regreased, yes even out of the box. I own 2 KHE based coasters I've done this for and it's prevented any issues.
Joey S:
Still haven't re greased it yet since getting it. I'll try that out. Thanks.
DaddyCool:
Maybe due to the more complicated mechanism it naturally has a little more resistance than a cassette. Most flatlanders want their cranks to be tighter so that a crankflip is not possible anyway.
I do not think that this means that the hub is not ok. But regreasing it cannot be a mistake for sure.
