BB size availability and durability
(1/1)
jakiboang:
if im going to customize a frame what size of BB should i use
what bb size are preferred and widely used by flatlanders??
are the bearings of these size are available anywhere??
and also is this kind of size more durable than the other??
for flatland use only

for me EuroBB works best. i have two frames with euroBB and one with MidBB. Installing/deinstalling EuroBB is very easy. Grab a 36mm wrench and it takes you less than a minute. Pressing or hammering a MidBB in is not funny if you have no experience with that. It was sometimes depressing, when the bearings didnt go in straight for an hour. Its no problem anymore for me, but i still prefer the EuroBB.
I heared that EuroBB is not so durable and Spanish/Mid are. But didnt make that experience so far. The only thing i can tell you is that the KHE EuroBB runs smoother than any of the MidBB i had. Maybe its a problem of the frame, it seems like the bearings get squeezed and stuck a bit.

mid is taking over. spanish too

^ that's true, some trials bike companies are including spanish bb's to their 20" line.
however, the spanish bb is non-standard (over here in singapore, the code for the spanish bb bearing yields the correct outer diameter, but a 20mm inner diameter) meant that it's only available through better bike shops and mailorder; the mid doesn't have that issue (for 19mm inner diameter, not sure about 22mm though).
