14mm hubset for new bike

<< < (3/4) > >>

melon lover:
I ride the giesha light on my flat bike and the reverse on my street/park/flat bike and I've had no dramas with it at all it rolls super smooth it's a tad heavy but what can you do I can't ride cassette

Good luck with the new built

The Stolen has terrible reviews @ link u posted,
- I think I'll pass on it, thanks for linking me.
Is the greyhound adjustable available though, DC?
Thanks for the heads up Melon Lover, cheers,
Sounds like a good option.
ATM I would like to go with the GreyHound adjustable and matching front hub,
it seems a lot of the hubs are 36h, is 48 unnecessary?
I had a KHE Beater, but it got stolen somewhat.
Pics are coming, I've been riding little sessions all morning, remembering stuff.
Need a tennis court though, my driveway is up and down.
edit-my bike weighs 19kg atm
The Geisha light actually looks really cool

hi, yeah i did ride the bamboo, but 10mm axle version. sold it to a friend who needed it as his k-series nankai was destroyed.
nankai is great if you like running tighter than normal chain tension, bearings are cheaper, and maintaining a bamboo is a breaze as it was designed with street riders in mind (less finiky and simplified componets).

CatWeasle:
Hey,
I think I want the Geisha Light/GreyHound adjustable for the rear,
was looking at this for the front->

Can I replace the axle with a hollow one?
I need 14mm 48h hub, I'll lace it radial.
I like doing peg stalls, thus the need for a heavy part.
I have bent my 10mm axle and the drops on my current bike.
Thanks for the heads up on Bamboo 8D

DaddyCool:
The axle of a SB hub can be replaced, but it is more difficult than with BB hubs. The SB hub axle has a distance between the two bearings seats which is of great importance and different from hub to hub. So you would most probably need to buy another axle from the same company or you have to ask for this distance. Sometimes you are lucky...
I once had an axle treated on a lathe to get the correct distance for my hub shell.
The other problem today will be to find a 14 mm front axle! As 99% of the street (and flatland) riders ride female front hubs today there is basically no market for 14 mm any more. I guess it will be difficult. You could buy a 14mm hub from ebay and hope the axle will last...
After bending and breaking countless 10 mm axles I switched to 14 mm years ago and still prefer it, but I have never tried a female hub. If I will have to exchange my hub one day, I will try female I guess.
48 H is the same story! Very rare these days! Most rims and hubs are offered only in 36 H. Fortunately you can get offers for 48 H sometimes, for example here:
http://store.odysseybmx.com/hardgoods.aspx
For sure good rims, and the 48 H are cheap because they want to get rid of them  ;D

Be careful with the freecoaster: The Geisha light has the KHE "EAS" axle. An inner aluminium axle with "studs" out of steel to put in. It is between a female and male system. From outside the Geisha light looks very similar to the Greyhound, but the axles are different.
