« on: March 26, 2012, 10:42:36 AM »
Ares posted the specs of the APlus frame. They've been aiming for a simple design, low top tube and stability.

Specs: TT Length: 18.3"; CS Length: 12.8"; Head Angle: 74.5°; Seat Angle: 73.5°

nice frame, the only thing i would change would be to put a gusset over the tt or weld the tt higher on the head tube,it looks ugly to my eye with all this space and not so strong as if the tt was higher welded.

Will there be a longer TT version? Like the old AY Daw? 19.1" of that would be pretty tastey!

Why is there no chainstay bridge? The tire is not going to hit it, a bridge probably weighs next to nothing, and a bridge will add quite a bit of strength.

Another uninspiring flat frame fed into the market.

Back in the day most frames had dimples on the outside to clear 40 odd tooth sprockets. Then wider tyres became the norm & sprockets got smaller so dimples on the inside of the chainstays happened. Its rare you see either style now-a-days. I had a few older frames with dimples & ive bent chainstays due to this, Not my thing.

Mmm I see. Thanks for the input! So maybe nowadays it's just to be able to run tires wider than 1,75?

Yeah I don't really like dimples, but no chain stay bridge is a total deal breaker. Why do companies do this?

i don't think they're dimples...it might be how the light is hitting the bend in the tube.  anyways, you can't really judge how the frame will hold up by just the pictures.  my St.Martin EVO does not have the chainstay bridge and it's absolutely the stiffest frame i've owned in 10 years. i also don't think the gussets really strengthen the frame much, i've seen many frames with gussets with cracks running alongside.

I know it's just another straight tubed frame in the market but I'm really diggin the specs since I'm a quite short guy. Anyways, just checked on brakeless.ch and it costs 430 euros!! WTF? phew not for me.

by dimples do you mean the frame is flated on the chainstays for the crank arm not to hit the chainstays?
About the chainstay bridge,i would never by a frame with no bridge,as it would flex alot by standard nowdays tube thickness and diameter.
