started riding bmx when i was 9, small jumps and things...then Flatland when i got 13. I'm 40.
But the age does not mean anything, some have been riding 2 years and are incredibly good, others like me have been riding all their life and are just barely ok...
When we started riding it was a totally different scene. Like me you probably spent your first couple of years learning Miami Hoppers, Lawnmowers, Cherrypickers, Bar Rides... then rolling tricks and scuffing tricks came in. For awhile it was all scuffing... and these tricks are hard. It is progression, it is also fashion or trends of tricks. If your scene was like mine we also didn't ride exclusively flatland, we rode everything. A flat session, then some street and then hang out at a friends half pipe, probably dirt jumping too. Today kids immediately start learning brakeless rolling exclusively, which is cool. What I'm trying to say is that you are not necessarily "barely okay" it probably depends on your definition. Besides being 40 and still riding is not "barely okay". I've gotta say that as I turn 40 this year.
I'm sure there have beens similar discussions here on the forum before.
