Titanium Anodizing Video Tutorial, by the Lord
« on: October 21, 2011, 07:28:18 AM »
Hello.
I followed loosely a guide I found here, but decided to do it
without the risk of the electric socket.

The following isn't an exact science, but it should explain alot.

Below is the link to the video tutorial:
Titanium Anodizing Tutorial

Purpose:
Anodizing titanium makes it colors of your choice.
It produces an oxidized layer on the outside of the material
only a few wavelength's thick.  It doens't affect the mechanical
properties of the piece itself, but does make it look nice.
Purple, Pink, Yellow, Bronze, Gold, Blue, and Green are colors
that can be obtained depending on the voltage used.

CAUTION:If you electrocute yourself, you WILL GET ELECTROCUTED!!!
This is not fun.  It is recommended you protect yourrself from the
120v shock, under water, it is compareable to touching the wall
socket.

Ingredients:
- Non conductive container (tupperware)
- 250ml/1 cup water
- half teaspoon baking soda
- 9 volt batteries (13 or 14 of them)
- 2 alligator clips (for electrical connections)
- 1 cotton ball
- titanium workpiece of choice

Directions:
- Clean off the titanium part
- Stirr up a solution of a mildly conductive electrolyte consisting
of half teaspoon baking soda and 1 cup water in a tupperware container.
- Connect 13 or 14 9 volt batteries in series to eachother to make a 120v DC station.
- Connect alligator clip A's end to 9 volt battery station end, and other end to cotton ball.
- Connect other alligator clip B's end to other end of 9 volt battery station, and other end
to titanium workpiece
- Prepare the tianium piece and cotton ball by soaking them in the electrolyte solution
- Dip the aligator clip with the titanium piece attached into the electrolyte solution,
taking care to make sure the alligator end terminal is under water.
- With the other alligator clip, paint the titanium material that is not under water
using the cotton swab
- If done correctly, the ti piece will bubble and instantly the color will appear on the
area you have painted

I have put a square battery on my tongue .... I couldn't imagine 14 of them at the same time though.

''let me tell ya something i did a front n rear wheel hang on the cloping on the slide of the spine, now i stick to street!''

''do you freestyle?''

However serious you take it general public sees us as just dicking about on 'kids' bikes, some people could do to remember that and smile a little.
