Just wanted to add my two cents...been dealing with foot/leg/lower back stuff for years and years...tried tons and tons of shoes, not just for riding, but walking and skating.

I highly recommend Super Feet insoles for everything. tried the black, blue, green, orange...all are great, all have slightly different properties...and no, I don't work for them.  just been using them for probably over 10 years.  They're between  $35-$45 at running stores.

Mainly though, DO NOT WEAR VULCANIZED SOLES.  Even just for walking around you shouldn't wear them, IMO. But if you do wear vulcanized, Super Feet or something like them are an absolute must.

People need to realize that they're dropping between $60-$70 on a f*cking vulcanized shoe.  So technology from decades ago is completely unchanged, yet the price is just as high as shoes with way better tech. It makes no sense. Especially now that skate shoe companies are offering super high tech lightweight cupsoles.

Just as an example...anybody wearing Half Cabs should maybe think about something like this instead:
http://shop.vans.com/catalog/Vans/en_US/style/nlt.html?vcategoryId=SEARCH

It's a mid top, just like a half cab, but with a high tech lightweight cupsole and what sounds like a way better insole and midsole....for about the same price as a  Half Cab Pro. Haven't tried them yet, but I'm thinking about it.

Personally, I've learned my lesson already. I'd rather pay a little more than have f*cked up feet and a wacky lower back. Years of chiro and rehab and not being able to walk or run correctly taught me that.  I see these young guys riding and skating in thin little ballet-type shoes....they have no idea of the horror that awaits them in their 30's.

about wearing vulcanized rubber shoes or any skate shoes for that matter im begning to believe they should be treat like most athletic shoes. They should not be worn outside of riding, or atleast the pair you ride in,shouldnt be the pair you walk around in all day, because bmx/skate f up the shoes in certain spots consistently which would make them bad to walk in IMO.

I have no idea how people ride in vans slip on, or the laced version. its so thin all around. Offers very little protection anywhere

thank you guys for the info, im setting myself up to see a doctor soon.

Good to see your doctor and have him/her send you to a specialist, who can prescribe for custom orthopedics. Normal/basic inserts are just short term not for heavy duty use. If you invest that much time/effort on your bike/biking its worth attending to your own body so you can ride for many years, along with doing normal walking.

This problem will effect your knees, hips and back if not already. You may not notice right now but it will work its way up if not addressed properly.
Speaking of pros-Skateboarders/Surfers/FreeRiders most I know see a good reflexologist and chiropractor. Just some things in the industry/actions sports that is not talked about much.

Again any hydro, massage therapy is always good for the whole body. Something in your Kitchen cupboard like olive, sesame, or flax oil is healthy be it for massage or internal structuring.

What is really appalling in this industry(shoe industry in general be the shoes for men or women)...not one has addressed in making a proper BMX/Bike shoe. They keep pumping crap that just looks good and is non-functional to keep the money rolling.  Well buyer demand isn't there either, anyway that's another story.

I feel ya on the shoe thing. there should be more BMX shoes instead of skate shoes that bmx riders use. skating and bmx are different so why not the shoes?

I feel right now some of the related companies supporting action sports is more amp to listen, as opposed to 2-5 years ago. Riders in BMX really need to be vocal and bring out the ole email/pen and sword tactics. There are many public media related outlets to address such issues.

No doubt its about demand...however few elite sports do get addressed for proper footwear. Its amazing how much support Badminton has...lol
If any company should be addressed about this issue its, Nike 6.0
Now that they've explored BMX riding, and supported a few comps(Toronto BMX Metro Jam, Bowl Comps, comes to mind and few other local comps in their main area where their head office functions/location).

If only the pros in BMX who are supported by such companies said something and really pursued in a consistent manner with this issue.  I find many pros are just not vocal enough nor do they handle community needs, apart from their own riding. Its not the same to be vocal in own rider community alone. This is where Skateboarders and Surfers are different from BMXers. Remember they started out small, and when not addressed, they sourced out and started their own companies.

I also agree with this statement. We gripe about stuff internally put don't really go the source. It's like two kids talkin about the fact that they hate getting sweaters for christmas, but they never say anything to mom and dad, and on top of that they were the sweaters anyway haha
