I had a friend leave my KGB in Austin Texas and the bike got stolen from a 2nd floor balcony. He's not my friend anymore.  It was bright green.  I miss that bike.  Sorry of your friends loss hope you get it back.
All things in life are temporary. If going well...enjoy it, they will not last forever. If going wrong don’t worry, they can't last long either.

You could call the cops and tell them your stolen bike is on craigslist... They might pursue it...

And if not, contact the seller yourself, ask questions, sound interested... get a location...

the inital incident was reported
and my friend did get a new bike through his insurance (his travel insurance, i think cause he's only here temporarily)

well, my friend did get my message and confirmed it is his bike
i told him to call the police ( i gave him the non-emergency number)

so we'll see happens now

In that case he no longer owns the bike, the insurance company does.

cops wont do a thing, they have a handful of more important things to do than to waste hours to investigate a stolen bike, if you really wanted it, and it was really personal, i would honestly just buy it back and bite my lip but my baby is back, more aggressive options are available as well that cops wouldn't also waste their time with :>

well, it depends whether the insured has assigned rights to the stolen property, whether the insured was paid out in full for the loss, etc.
