Hi there,

I wanted to show you the first pics of a new flatland crank that will be tested in the next few months.
The design is inspired by the Cook Brothers crank made back in the day.

100 % CNC machined
Oversized Ø 30 mm TA6V titanium axle with 27 mm hex. shape at the extremitys
7145-T6 aluminum crank arms
Q factor : 4°
1 Bolt
157 mm long for the arms, but custom length will be available for a 140 mm / 195 mm range
No price yet, but because everything is made in France, they'll be pricey...

Yes Jon, I get it, give me few days and I'll get back to you.
There's a lot of orders at this time and I spend too much time on design, instead of making these parts real...

Preview of a new option available for head tubes :

Hi Malo,

the PIR crankset is a great project.

Of course you know more than the rest of us about materials and resistance, but I wonder if there's any way the "head" of the crank arm is not so bulky, so that they are aesthetically more appealing, as at least to me the look a bit disproportionate they way the are now. Again I'm only saying this in terms of aesthetics.

The other thing that I want to ask you, is if you would consider using steel or titanium for smaller sprockets. The advantage that I see is that in this is that you could could further reduce the hexagonal diameter of axle in the outside part of the axle, without sacrificing strength.

Anyway, I look forward to hearing your thoughts about this

props on this work, as in any other things you have shown us.

Alex

In fact I didn't contribute to the design of that crank.
It's a french racer who work as a machinist who designed them.
You can see the first model made here :

http://oldschoolbmxfrance.com/forum23//viewtopic.php?f=3&t=8135&hilit=p%C3%A9dalier

He contacted me, asking if I would agree to test it and I said yes, because I liked the aesthetical.

The purpose behind that design was to offer a very stiff and strong axle that's why it's Ø 30 mm.
So the size of the spherical head is a consequence...
It's true that it's a bit big, but to my point of view it's not that big.

Developing that kind of products doesn't worth it from an economic point of view and only a very limited batch is scheduled, just for the fun...

It's true that using titanium or steel sprocket allow to reduce the size and thickness of the material used, but, once again, it's not my goal. Some big companies work on that since long time now and there's already a lot of nice designs available. Small companies can't afford to invest money in that kind of R&D...

Ok I get it, but the steel sprocket idea came from the assumption that you will end up producing a sprocket for these cracks anyway...

please post price when you have an idea of the cost.

cheers,

Alex

It uses Spanish BB, but with different bearing stop, because the drive side needs 3 bearing and only 2 for the non drive side...
So it's not standard...
That has to be improved...

Here's the latest handlebar made, an Hoffman love handles replica, with Ø 1" support tubes :
