Pretty cool design.

I'd say that's probably the worst possible place to lose weight though.  The part you machined away is were most forks bend assuming the legs hold.  I've bent plenty over about 30 years, trust me.

If anything, machine out the inside of the top of the headtube.  You could probably get by with it pretty thin, you've just got side impacts from the bars hitting the ground with very little weight on them.

If you absolutely have to do it at the bottom, do it on the inside so the larger outer diameter can help strengthen it.

OldYeller, please, I'm a calculator and FEM simulation teacher. I perfectly know where a part can be optimized and really don't need any advice, because it's just my job.
I really like to consider criticisms when they are constructive and recevable, but, seriously, you don't even know how thick the steerer is in the machined area...

It really was intended as constructive.

If it works it's certainly innovative, I've never seen it done before.

''let me tell ya something i did a front n rear wheel hang on the cloping on the slide of the spine, now i stick to street!''

''do you freestyle?''

However serious you take it general public sees us as just dicking about on 'kids' bikes, some people could do to remember that and smile a little.

I am intreged by the 100 mm rear spacing and special BB that would indicate this was for a crank less bike.
However the 9 x 9 drive has put a different perspective on this frame.

No matter what the reason for these specs, its a very intersting frame.

Love the look of the forks and the bars. I wish this was around when I was still seriously riding. On another note I looked up  FEM simulation and I just about curled up into the fetal position and started to cry.

No, it's for the japanese rider Günter.
You can see his previous frame built up here :

I think that he removed the 2 lock bolts of the freecoaster and saved 10 mm (2 X 5) on the width...

The BB is the same as his previous frame and is intented to be used with some kind of plastic bottom bracket, but only the smaller part. I mean that the crank's axle is in contact with that plastic part only and that's all. He doesn't use the bigger part of the plastic BB anymore, so the OD of the BB can be decreased.
2 additionnal holes are located on the BB to put lubrificant easily...

Ahhhhhh .....  I honestly thought it was a crankless frame and the holes the BB would be for locking pegs into the BB.
(and thus the reason for the 100mm front hub - rear spacing)

Very interesting size, and really nice to see a BB height that makes use of the offset of the front end length.
