Rotm December 2010: Chicken Boy from Vietnam
« on: December 12, 2010, 04:40:30 PM »
I´m sure I´ve said it before, but this month´s ROTM has to be my favourite so far...
´CHICKEN BOY´ from Vietnam has such a great style and outlook on life, that you can´t help but love him... Everything from Tanh´s bike set-up to his humour and dress sesnse make me smile. We need more people like this in Flatland.  Oh, and did I mention that he´s been on national TV in Vietnam too?  Flatland on national TV!?!

I hope you all enjoy reading his interview as much as I have... it´s put a big smile on my face!  (A personal PS: BIG thanks to Paul Chamberlain for getting the questions and photos together - I couldn´t have done it without you!)

Vietnam (and some other Asian countries) measure age from conception.

ok Wouter here is the deal. babies (in general) stay for about 9 months in their mother before they are born out so in asia countries, they count that 9 months add to the actual age after birth. so it is almost 1 more year to add to actual age.
p/s: this Chicken boy is lying tho lol. hes actually over 17 and if plus the "mother age" he is now 18  ;D. I used to have video battles with him when i was in Vietnam. Hes one year older than me
anyway, props to that guy !   Im glad Vietnam's flatland scene has been known

In Vietnam and many other Asian countries they don't say how many 'years old' they are they say how many birthdays they've had.

We need a video  ;D

Made this one a while ago. Got more footage but having computer issues. Waiting on the delivery of a new battery and charger for the laptop.

I guess his age was lost in translation. I had difficulty trying to find out how old he was.

There are lots of good riders in Saigon. I guess Chicken is the best because he can do front and backwheel but Phuoc's pretty good, Nam too, One also and another guy who's a bit older can do crazy backwards pumping sh*t on the front wheel that's different to anything I saw before.

Yeah it's Hoa - I forgot his name. He's does it with a footswitch that looks like it will go to halfpacker soon.

One of the young riders in Ho Chi Minh City took that - his name is One. He is learning to be a photographer. I love that picture too.

Chicken Boy seems really rad, glad he's rider of the month!

Me too. Reall stoked to have the opportunity to make it happen. He's a good friend.

Add him on Facebook to see more of his 'interesting' pics!
