Wow.

Aside from the typical department store junk, this was my first "real" bike.

I cannot believe I actually found a picture of one, but here it is....

http://bmxmuseum.com/bikes/bianchi/7144/1

A mid 80's Bianchi BMX. I got it as a present for graduating grade 8.  Araya 7x 32 spoke rims. Chromoly frame. Pretty sure mine had some 3 piece alloy shimano cranks with shimano DX pedals though. By the time I was done with it it had skyway tuff wheels on it, a Nippon Dia-Compe brake up front and Redline 4 piece bars. Man that bike was terrible :) The bottom bracket was so low to the ground the pedal would hit the ground with very little lean.

I finallllly found it. Had to just go alphabetically through the museum until I saw a brand that sounded familiar:

Basically, it was terrible but that was the same colour and everything as my first "real" bike. I'd had a cobbled together BMX or two before that one but they were no-name, spraypainted frames with sketchy parts. Then, after the mighty Schwinn, I finally got some real real bikes- a couple of Trickstars and eventually I settled on a string of GT Pro Performers.

My first 'Freestyle' bike was a 1986 GT Performer in GT Blue... one of my first upgrades  was to swap out the mags for ACS Z-Rims w/ a freecoaster... at least the freecoaster was a step in the right direction...  ;D

If you are for real, you probably spend enough time on your bike that there's no time left for talking sh*t on message boards.

Of course, if all you do is talk sh*t on message boards, you're probably not as good or as cool as you think you are.

1985 Redline RL-20.  "Hazard Yellow".  Coaster brake...but ditched the mags/coaster as soon as the Peregrine 48's came out.  Also upgraded to the Forklifters(first 4-piece bars) when they came out.

I really liked that bike, other than the mags/bars.  I wanted to add that looking back, I think this bike was well ahead of the times.  Notice there is no standing platform, it had tapered and caped stays, tapered forks, and if I remember correctly, had a 75 degree head tube angle.

I didn't have to look in the museum for mine. ^_^  Redline 400 series cranks, ACS55 stem/pro rotor, Hutch Trick Top Seat, fluted seat post...this is a couple of years after I first got it.

Landing a Decade.

how come so many of the bikes on there have no front pegs?

Many bikes back then had pegs on the forks, rather than the axles.  Also, some people didn't run them on certain sides, because they got in the way of certain tricks like Miami Hoppers.

'87 Mongoose Decade..my first real trick bike.

I went through all the phases with this thing..chrome with pink grip tape, frame standers, mags with no pegs, you name it.

It cracked at the seat post tube, so they upgraded it to an 88'. which mandated they change the stem, brakes, rotor, etc. it was the best warranty deal I ever got!
