im liking the look of the front hub, but the bolts they're using to hold everything in place look like old school peg studs that weigh just as much as a new school hub.

Nankai front hubs are already available. Here are some photos of the production models. 36H, 3/8" axle, and loose ball only.

Nankai 500 AFS

Nankai 530 AFS

Nankai 550 AFS

Remember, grammar is the difference between "I helped my uncle Jack off a horse", and "I helped my uncle jack off a horse".

I just started getting into flatland stuff about 3 days ago and suck so far, I blame my sh*tty bike and lack of practice.

Indeed, you're right about that.

It's a fairly Chinese name, if you Google "Nankai", you'll find schools and universities in China called 'Nankai',  ^_^

In real Chinese (which Japanese Kanji is basically) it's actually prounounced "Naan" "Hai".

Just bit 'o casual trivia

Why not use sealed bearings?

Ball bearing are more durable and roll better than sealed bearings. They just need a little more maintenance.

Both 500 AFS and 530 AFS weigh 9.2oz (10.2oz with axle nuts), and the 550 AFS weighs 9.9oz (10.9oz with axle nuts). Granted, they are a tad heavier than most front hubs, but they spin forever.

Nope.

I never understood that "more durable" argument since it's the easiest thing in the world to over-tighten the unsealed cages and they just get all warped out and the spheres just start poping out like pop corns, a mess.
