unless he has some mind blowing plan to account for EVERY SINGLE POSSIBLE ride in/ride out/variation + new tricks being invented then i don't see how it could work, because some guy will throw down a new ride in and no one will know what to do etc... also i don't really want to see 10 years from now some little flatlander will be like "aw hey man, can you do a hitchhiker? those are worth 70 points!"

I think it kinda takes a big dump right on the face of the "freestyle" aspect of flatland too.

Flatland will never grow as long a people bash riders for "trying to win comps all the time".

The point of flatland is to be the best, and the contest scoring system is the most important aspect. As we have all watched while "favorites" constantly win... Regardless of the actual run.

So, I give Chad props for at least trying to figure out a system, I do think that points should be awarded based on the tricks, but it will be hard to do, but knowing Chad I am sure he will have thought about all the issues.

In my opinion, until we have the same judging format all over the world at every contest, (some type of sactioning) we will never be able to say "this guy is the best" which, is the point of the sport...

^Even I had a chuckle at that one! I think the scoring system should get a chance to see how it goes. Maybe it works out well, no one knows. But you dont get anything new without trying somethiong new. I think its a cool way of doing things personally, but it does kinda remind me of Matt Hoffmans Pro BMX on PS2 and no one can do a handstand thru a nose manual!

it is computurized
so yeah it will have some things that needs to be tweaked
but like i said flatlanders are a bunch of biootches
and like to be negative and put others down no matter
what and what are ya all doing for flatland???

so why put someone down trying to make a system
that ACTUALLY WORKS. NOT BIAS OR ANY OF THE
OTHER STUFF GOING ON!!

YOU GET BACK TO ME ON THAT!!

"As The Cranks Turn"  The flatland drama club will be meeting in the global-flat community board nightly.  Pitch forks and burning cross optional.

Ok, look.

Hats off to Chad for coming up with a new system. Great, now we have another option to go to for the next contest that comes up.

That being said, it's NOT usable because there are just way too many things to take into account when judging.

I don't get what is so hard about judging these days that people just don't get HOW to judge.

Variety, Consistency, Difficulty, Originality.

The only thing that could be objective for a judge about any of these things is difficulty because some people learn some things faster than others and that makes some things less difficult for others. However, if you have guys ont he board that have been around for like 15 years, originality isn't going to be that hard of a category to judge. Same with consistency and variety.

Judging is a really really simple aspect of all contests that has been marginalized and yet at the same time, complicated to the point of making it impossible to come up with any discernable "working" format to go by.

Theoretically it should be quite simple, but no matter what 'system' you use, someone has to enter the data; and if that person is a biased douche or simply incompetant (makes some errors), then the best system in the world will not generate fair results. I'm with TJ on the four catgory model, I think that one way to improve upon it is that where judges are found to be blatantly biased, they should never ever be allowed to judge again. And perhaps, to have the judges identity printed next to the list of scores they gave would be beneficial, so that people can confront them about things and get answers and the biased ones can be easily identified. granted someone will always think that they deserved higher but if the judge tries to rationally explain their reasons (and only if they are good ones) then the buck should stop there. I know a lot of people might just get all crusty and bad mouth a judge if they got a low score from him but this seems at least a little better than the zero accountability of judges at present.
Enough! I grow weary of your foolishness ninjas.

tj
it is called being human
you should know and you called me bias before
because i said something about your religion!
being human means your going to be bias in many
ways and that includes judging.

people if you use the system you described and the
one being used now will have people being human
and the bias and favorism questions will be a factor
and you cant say it wont be!

no one going to not be doing favorism no matter how
one might say they dont do that and it is just how people
and humans are...LOOK AT THE WORLD AND HOW MUCH
BIAS,PREJUDICES AND OTHER STUFF IS GOING ON....
DAMN STUPID MONKEYS IF YOU ASK ME....HUMANS.

this computerized and points given for each tricks takes out
the bias and favorism factor and I HAVE SAID IT IS NOT PERFECT
but it surely will better than the system being used now.

i hope you understand what exactly why this stsyem will be better
than the other or the one being used now and LIKE I SAID IT MIGHT
NEED TO BE TWEAKED A LITTLE BIT BUT I CANT WAIT TO SEE IT.

everyone going to be bias and favorism based in one way
or another and really to ban evryone who does that
wont stop it and will make it worse as it will be harder
to judge flatland so that is not at all the answer.

what you have said brandon is true as humans do enter
the data and it can be changed or errors made but that is
why there should be a trusted person checking the results and
double checking the math and results. i have yet to see that
and hoffman b.s. comps had somewhat of a system like that
but have the number of judges and then have a person or two(monitors)
for each 3 judges to check the result and make sure it is right

ok for example.................
-5 judges judge the comp
-2  judge monitor people check the results...1 checking for 2.5 judges judging
-1 person then checking over monitor results..overall person
in charge of both the judges and 2 judge monitors.

8 people total for the judging system!!

i dont think all 8 people are going to be bias or show favorism
towards one person or group and this will be a fair sytem along
with the points for each linkt or trick as that would eliminate the
bias and favorism in judging and would be fair.
