Cobra Tube
« on: August 05, 2005, 08:30:07 PM »
The cobra tube is a new revolutionary tube from fly bikes, it allows you to replace a tube without taking the wheel off. This tube should be out until December or so, right now it’s a prototype and been tested by fly team riders. Fly claims that with this tube you wont feel any bumps or empty spots, so the wheel will be perfectly rounded up, the weight will also be similar to a regular tube.
For us the flatlanders I think it’s a good thing, cause you don’t need to open the wheel than tension the chain while you need to center the wheel in the frame and most important thing is you can fill it with high pressure.

I heard Specialized tried this a few years back, and wasn't successful with sales.  Not being against it, but if you dont have tools to take off your wheel, where are you getting a pump...

Cars do not have inner tube, only the tire olds the air inside so its a matter of time b4 we get this "technology" on our bikes.

Hugo, tubeless tires already exist there mainly used for mountain biking and have been around for a few years..! im not sure they'll be able to take high pressures tho..

its a bad idea this tubeless thing, i talked to mountain bike riders that use it and they said that they always has a tube with them cause if you get a flat tire from somthing sharp you cant use your tire for tubeless anymore and you have to put a tube insibe, soooooooo whats the use? ;)

You'd have to reeinforce the tire what probably would increase its weight, it may still be a good option though.
