First Hitchhiker today!!
« on: February 23, 2009, 05:15:50 AM »
Yep. Ive been riding my wells for 3 days and I pulled my first Hitchhiker while riding today. I didnt roll it very long but I did get the rear up and held it for a second or two. Its a great thing to start seeing some progression...specially after only 3days. Hopefully I can get them down and throw up a video this week. Just wanted to share the excitement!! ^_^

Well done, bro..!!  You know you 'officially' got ur first Hiker when the back end gets up infront of you and ur rolling that sucker. :)
I got into my first one on the B-Ball courts at my old High School, 13yrs after I graduated.  lol

Keep it up, man.  Hopefully you'll add some distance to the rolling part real soon.

thanks guys....

well I couldnt believe how long it took to get this myself. I started practicing the half-hiker(backwards) about a week ago on my Haro. When I got the wheels for the st martin on thursday I kinda tried them but not too seriously. Then yesterday, I went out to my spot and was determined to at least be able to get the rear of the bike up a couple of times. After
I completely obliterated my left shin and knee learning them....it just kinda happened. And it wasnt just one time either...I wound up getting the rear up 2 more times after the first one. Although the second two times I didnt roll them too good I still got the bike up.

Anyways, im super stoked about it and feeling a bit cocky myself.. ;D

I'm an old-schooler too and I do them from elbow glides.

I'm so old school, I know that a windshield wiper is a back and forth decade.

When I had back brakes I used to do these all the time because I learned to do decades from the left side to right side but naturally I should be doing them right to left.

Congrats on your hiker!!!  I remember the first timne I got into one... Took about a month after that to actually land it.  I remember when I landed it down and got back into a bw steam and hopped off without "riding out" and just let the bike fall.  I had my hands in the air like I just made the winning basket for like 10 minutes!  Awesome feeling!!  Congrats dude, keep up the good work and keep us posted on your progress!!!

Something that will help you learn them faster, that nobody told me, is to practice as many two-footed rolling tricks as you can. Once you can do a few, all the other ones just become easy to do, and easy to pickup more. Like scuffing, once you scuff like three tricks you can just learn the other ones in like 5 minutes, because it's the same technique just different positions.
