forks with offset....
« on: January 16, 2009, 06:36:50 PM »
Can anyone recommend a good set of forks with plenty of offset AND brake mounts  ? - I'm a bit old skool and can't get on with zero offset forks on my new ride -  would a set of odessey dirt forks for example be ok for flat ?...

Any street fork is ok if you want FULL offset.
If you want minimal offset, I can think of a few examples:
-Primo Strand, it has 13mm offset;
-Macneil Blazer, 26mm offset;
-Fly Tierra, 27mm only works with integrated headsets*;
-Japanese company, Dirty450, has a new light weight (851g) fork with 27mm offset;
-or for a retro look, chrome SE Landing Gear, with 28mm offset (dont know how well pegs will work with this one.

GT show forks are the best if you plan on doing smith decades.

Brake mounts... humm none of them have mounts... :P

The Odyssey Dirt/Director/Race/Classic all have 32mm offset,
the Flatland Fork with offset has 10mm offset...

I just remembered, Suelo has 18mm offset forks w/ mounts,
And Wethepeople Helium 25s , 25mm offset with brake mounts - good choice.

These are flatland inspired street forks, which means the geometry of the fork is steeper with a 13mm off set on the drop out (easier to get on the nose).  The V cut on the steer tube is used for cable routing on the brake version of the forks.   It dosen’t reduce the strength in any way.   We’ve been testing these forks for the last year and haven’t had any problems.  They are also backed by a life time warranty, so if any problem does come up, we will take care of it.

Eastern did a short run of Nitrous forks with brake mounts. Dans or some other mail order might have a set if you give them a call (???) I have a set that is new in the box but I am planning on putting it on my bike someday....

.. or you could just do the Odyssey freestyle fork.

I have been running the old Odyssey Flat fork with minimal offset for 4+ years and it has held up great for me. They wern't too much different than my SBC Bash forks but a hell of a lot hards. They have been through a good amount of abuse with no damage (even when i was leaning toothpick stalls on cement benches -- I weigh ~220).
