Front wheel problem
« on: January 02, 2009, 03:02:13 AM »
I popped my tire afew days ago and so i decided to patch the tire.  I took off the wheel and patched the tire. after that i put the tire back on and tightened all the things back on. I spun the tire to see if every thing was working but the tire would barley complete one rotation.

Does anybody know why

BTW, it the axel supose to move when the wheel turns?

I have kinda have this problem with my marmoset hub.....My black one spins forever but the grey one on a different does spin nearly as long as the other or like on  any of my other bikes.

I dont think the bearing being to tight applies to this , any know of this reason or ever experience it?

Sounds like the cone nuts just got outta whack when you were loosening the pegs or something..Happens to my hub sometimes..Is it unsealed?

u mean the ones on the axel

on the axle,2 nuts on each side of the hub..

Turn the 1 closest to the hub to fine tune the bearing adjustment ,so the wheel spins smoothly- but nothing is loose-,If you ride it with the bearings even barely 'loose' they will get destroyed!...

then tighten the nuts against eachother, to lock them in place..

the nuts might already be loose cuz it sounds like they adjusted themselves while you were taking the wheel off..

Also you Only have to do this with 1 side of the hub...Either side don't matter..Just try to turn the nuts on the opposite side with your finger just to double check there not loose..

Its very common on older hubs that as you tighten your wheelnuts back up, you accidently overtighten your cone nuts on your front hub. Just get a cone spanner and back em off a fraction, then hold em in place as you re-tighten your wheelnuts again. Ideally, the two nuts {locknut and conenut} hold themselves in place, but they can move sometimes. Newer fronts are better designed. I like proper fronts, perfect design.

 Yes sir!

Remember not to loosen it too much .. if it jiggles when you shake it..That will completely ruin your hub..
