i blame radial lacing, but odyssey will sort you out no problem. email them that photo.

first question, did you buy the wheel already built?

if you built it yourself those spokes in that area might have been tighter than the rest...

radial lacing is just as strong as any other lacing if all the spokes are tensioned equally...

I've read around the forum a couple of days ago that different lacings will put stress on your hub.
I don't quite recall, but I think it had something to do with direct lacing, like radial and "crow's foot".

Check that out, it most certainly is due to the lacing type, maybe badly built wheel where more stress got concentrated over that area.

I do not know how to explain it from a mechanical or engineering point of view, but radial lacing is to blame. Many hub manufacturers, especially MTB, warn not to radial lace aluminum hub flanges. It is a risk we take with flatland.

Odyssey is sooo good about warranties though that you still have a good chance of them taking care of it.

Radial lacing caused it. It adds more stress to a smaller surface area of the flange. For example, the shock of an impact is directly forced onto a small area of the flange, whereas cross lacing like 3x {36} and 4x {48} distibutes the force over a larger area of the flanges.

For 36, try 3x.

I blew no less than 3/4 of a flange on one of these using cross-lacing but, all you've left us with is a photo of a broken Odyssey Vandero 1 laced x0. What were you doing when it happened?

By the way after a few e-mails and a photo or two Marco at Odyssey had me send him my failed Vandero for a replacement. Thanks Marco and Odyssey .

Yep, more than likely the radial lacing. I learned my lesson.
