Mikey Aitken Needs you and your Prayers
« on: October 08, 2008, 09:39:34 PM »

Our thoughts and prayers are with Mike, who was injured on Sunday while riding with friends in Pennsylvania. Mike is currently in critical condition in the ICU at St. Luke´s hospital in Bethlehem, PA. His wife and parents have flown from Salt Lake City, UT to be by his side.

Mike was rushed to the hospital early Sunday afternoon after over-rotating a 360 and taking a severe blow to the head. Emergency staff immediately sedated Mike who was reportedly disoriented and convulsing, he has not regained consciousness since.

That is sad. I still find it silly when I see kids riding street, park, vert, or dirt without helmets.  The things they do is too risky to ride without one.  I don't recall if the article states whether he was riding with or without, but there's just too much to lose to ride without one imo.

I will definitely say a prayer for him and his family.

This is why I'd never ride anything else than flatland.
Ok we too get some injuries but nothing like dirt/street.

I love my teeth, I like my bones with no titanum screws and especially and most important, I have that annoying little thingy of enjoying life.

I hope all turns out ok.

I was in the same boat about 16 years ago.  I was riding with my buddy and decided to climb from the bed of the truck to the cab on the highway.  Well, I got to the door and that was it.  Major faceplant on the shoulder of the highway.  I had head trauma and had fractured my temple, jaw, and top pallet.  I wasn't expected to make it over night. I had major head trauma and had brain swelling.  I was in a coma for 2 weeks.  Well, after a month in a hospital bed, I pulled through.  It just depends on the injury I guess.  It's good that Mike is in good shape because that will help him get through an injury such as this.  I feel that this guy can pull through this.  It's just going to take some time for his head to heal while he sleeps.  I feel for the guy and will keep him in my thoughts.

and to read that there is damage to the brain stem-step back for a sec...if that were to have snapped or been severed...the end. ive seen MANY wrecks in my 22 years riding. God be with you, Mike and family. There are tons of riders in the Chicago area praying for you.

i was shocked when i 1st heard about this. really truely hard to deal when a fellow rider goes down like that. this year has been hard...alot of good riders gone down.
hopefully riders will start to warm up to the idea of gearing up when theyre out there killin it.
every vert rider gears up when they hit the ramps. street is just as dangerous. street riders are going bigger than ever these days.  i know u dont wanna look like special ed when ur out rollin in the hood, but if it can help save even one riders head, so be it.
hang in there Mike! were all pulling for ya dude!

I really hope he recovers all his health.

I don't know much about the accident, but I hope street riders wear a helmet more often....
