Handlebar sweep (DIY ?)
« on: July 03, 2008, 09:58:22 PM »
Who here has modified their bars to either put sweep into their bars or take sweep away from their bars?

If you have made a mod regarding sweep, please state :

What bar
Plus or minus sweep
Technique to sweep or de-sweep
Success or fail

Cheers

Peregrine Q-Bar
Minus sweep
1: Lay bar on ground, face up.
2: Jump
3: Land on bar
Mild success

s&m castillos, between wood, stomped them flat..they held up fine I dont know if they were perfect but i got used to them regardless..

I used a hole in manhole cover to pry back some bent s&m slam bars..

Also heard of guys putting them in ramp coping to do this..there are things called angle finders too..

bully bmx handlebars, from my dirt jumping bike.

take back sweep away,

stick 4 ft long steel pole over grip tube.
bend.
check your work.
do the other side.

sucess !

also said mention of stomping sweep out of bars - tried on this set,
and failed.   that where I need the 4 ft long pipe for leverage.
also it hurt my feet alot.
if using stomp method,   wear combat boots or something.
Old dudes can still rip

Swissmiss bars.

Added upsweep due to them coming out of the factory with downsweep.

Using a torch will get some heat in the bars making it easier to bend them.  Depending on the heat treatment it may weaken or strengthen the bars.

But easiest way is to cut and TIG it back together.  For anyone who wants custom bars you can probably hack a set of chromoly bars apart and get them welded back together for like $40-$60 at any good welding shop, or if you have a TIG do it yourself.  (or find a friend with one)
