Proper PSI for your tires..What do you recommend?
« on: August 10, 2006, 08:40:20 PM »
I have heard some say they  pump to 100 and others to 140. I usually  pump to 80. What do you recommend?

it depends of your level and the ground you ride... I'm a beginning Opera rider, I can't ride over 100 psi, it's too hard (Frequency G 1,85 tires).

Thanks everyone for the advice. I just saw azein's post and agree. I tested out a few differet PSI levels and found that it seemed to depend on where I was riding. I ride in a spot in Lower Manhattan and its pretty uneven ground  ,which I thought was even till I tested the higher PSI, ahahhah  the harder the tire the more unsteady I would become during rolling tricks I could feel all of the bumps in the ground. It took some time to adjust but I think I will be going back to the factory recommedation which is about 85 I think for the Day Smith Bermuduas (I pumped them to 100 PSI). Let me know if you guys have experienced this or have alternative advice. Again thanks ALOT!!!

depends on the ground you ride on
for example at the spot in danville i pump it up to
120psi as you roll better there at 120psi.
at the school ..aka oold school george's spot
i pump it at 115 as it is softer blacktop.

the night spot i have i pump it up to 120 psi
as it is hard blacktop like the spot is and slightly
slanted.

lower psi will make the bike less responsive and slower as well as give more cushion to your body, because it is less rigid.

Higher psi will make the bike spin faster, roll faster and in general make you bike more responsive. But, that also makes tricks harder for a beginner.

I ride 1.85's but I have been away from the sport for over a decade. When I get back to my old form, I will switch back to 1.75's and run really high psi.

I would recommend 1.85 for beginning and medium talent riders, with a psi around 100. Less than that and you run the risk of damaging your rims if you hit a curb. As you progress to the expert level, 1.75's with 140 psi will help you on some of the bar spin rolling stuff as you will be able to keep your speed up even with a lot of tire movement, because of the lower rolling resistance.

Also with scuffing the larger tires are easier to scuff, but you still need a minimum of 80psi for flatland. Otherwise the tires will bite the ground on spins and scuffs and the bike will be non-responsive, and you will fall over a lot

60psi is a flat tire
what type of tire do you have'
maybe get a better and higher psi tire there

even 95psi is very low and atleast for me
mininum is 105psi and that is like flat for me.
