KHE Forks/F-Set - Proprietary?
« on: May 22, 2006, 07:16:44 PM »
Do KHE bikes with the F-Set use a longer proprietary fork?  I plan on starting a new build and would like to use the fork off my Messerschmitt for now to save a few bucks.

NO IT IS A SHORTER SHAFT ON ALL KHE FORKS
AND I FOUND THE SAME PROBLEM WHEN I SHIFTED
TO A QUAMEN G-7 AND I HAD TO NOW USE THE HEAVIER
ODYSSEY PRO FLATLAND FORKS WHICH I DONT LIKE
AND WOULD LIKE TO FIND A LIGHTER 990 BRACKET FORK
WITH A 185MM FORK SHAFT.

It may or may not work depending on your setup. Measure the length of your steerer tube first. Do you plan on using rear brakes and a gyro? What kind of stem and headset?

I'll have to rip the front end apart to find out.  It's the standard fork that comes with a Messerschmitt.  I do plan on running back brakes/gyro, and the brickhouse is looking like a good option.

I'm not sure of an exact setup yet.  I'm looking at the Brickhouse and either the Kink or FSA headset.  I also will be running back brakes.

What minimum fork length should I be looking for?  I've noticed KHE forks as short as 165mm, whereas others such as the Odyssey are much longer at 190mm.

If you are going to use a gyro then you will probably need a steerer tube of 175mm or longer. The Odyssey fork is a great choice because it has a long steerer tube (which can be cut shorter), its reasonably light weight and very strong (only fork with a lifetime warranty).

i wished they had forks with longer shaft that is lighter
than 2.4 pounds as that is heavy for me pat
something like 24-27 ounces like some of the others
as that would be good.

I was able to transfer the fork to my friends bike; however we needed to remove one of the shims from the gyro to to it properly. He can still brake just as before, there is just less of an angle before the brakes touch the wheel.
